Hi all

I am flying to the US in October with my wife and child, and was wondering which airline you would recommend?

From what I have seen so far, SAA does not allow much luggage, BA allows more luggage but is slightly more expensive, Delta seems to fit in between.

I'm looking for a combination of cheap and lots of luggage, BA seems the best bet so far.

It all depends on who you have at the check-in counter. Some attendents, if they are in a good mood, will let you through, exess baggage and all.

I've used BA and had no hassle. They didn't charge for extra kg's.

Delta: (Adults permitted 2 bags at 23kg each and 1 piece of hand luggage at 18kg, and infants permitted 10kg and pram or car seat)

BA: (Adult permitted 2 bags at 23kgs each and 1 piece of hand luggage at 7kg, infants permitted 1 bag at 23kgs, a pram and car seat and 1 piece of hand luggage at 7kg)

SAA: (Adults permitted 2 bags at 20kg each and 1 piece of hand luggage at 7kg, and infants permitted 10kg and pram)

Virgin Atlantic. Great service, in my experience they're not as strict re. luggage as some other airlines (although the VA staff in British airports are quite regulation-enforcing).

Air France. Statistically virtually impossible for another one to crash in the next couple of months. :)

Has anyone tried Emirates? Cape Town to New York looks at least R9000 cheaper for two adults and one infant when compared to BA, luggage allowances looks about the same.
