Hey guys,

Don't shoot the messenger, but I didn't know of this Account Add-on/Feature, since I never visit branches.

Anyway. FNB have an Account option where you can 'bank your change'. They basically create a Smart Savings Account and all cents left over after a transaction done gets transferred to this account.

Now I don't earn nearly the fraction most of you guys do, but just in a week or so I managed to get R53 worth of cents in this Savings Account.

You can't withdraw from this Account at an ATM, you also can't swipe or transact from it as far as I know, but you can transfer from the Account inbetween your FNB Accounts, so it will always be available.

I hope it helps someone out there who doesn't know of this option and who would like to add it to their banking profile.

Shot.

Yea, I know of it. I think most people do.

However, you have to ask for it as it doesn't come by default.

They ask you if you'd like to open one when you open a new account with them.

Basically they ask you if you'd like to round up to the nearest R5, R10, whatever. So if you swipe for R47, and you elected the R5 option then they deduct R50 and put the R3 in the savings pocket.

Had this activated for a few months. I've got a few rands in the savings pocket, about R900. Not massive but better than nothing, and it's no effort.

Can this be activated via internet banking?
I'm not sure, but I doubt it. I had to give my ID at the branch and sign a few forms.

Cool. Weird though. I've got an existing account for a few years, so never needed to visit branches, until I had to go, then heard about it. They didn't ask me about a Savings Pocket starting round off like R5 or R10 etc. like you mention though. They probably saw I was earning peanuts and put me on R5, ROFL. :D

Mine was automatically added to my profile when i opened a cheque account with them, I don't recall even knowing about it or agreeing to it beforehand though, but it's not bad I guess

I don't get it.
It is suppose to help you save...

Anyways, I only use it for the ebucks points, to make it easier to stay on reward level 5. To get those odd 300 points per month have this:
- Have a savings pocket linked to ebucks account
- Have "bank your change" enabled
- Keep a minimum of R2000 at all times in this savings pocket.

Tada you get 300 points. One of the super easy things to do, to get to reward level 5, and stay there as well.

It's a good idea with FAIL implementation in my opinion.

It's supposed to be bundled with your savings pocket, the feature is called bank your change. The problem it gives me ZERO incentive to actually save the money as you get Like zero interest. I would say great idea If they at least offered some interest, TBH I would even be happy if they said you can get like 5% on a balance up to x amount. Even if it was only 5k. Anyways rant over.

Yup only reason I have it. Not for level 5 but the points.

You do get interest..not sure what percentage and you don't get charged for transfering to other accounts.

Good thing. It means you don't spend a **** ton of money like some of us :(

Stuck on level 3. Doubt this will move me up (already have a fixed deposit solely as a booster package to move me one level up)

I got my cheque account to reward level 5 without using it for spending too much, and only do certain things, like:
- 300 points for savings pocket + bank your change + min of R2000 in pocket
- 300 points for having a mobile device contract, R149 / month for the Nexus 7 was cheap, and I use it
- 100 points for having insurance for my mobile device through FNB
- 100 points for paying R5 for AA road assistance, linked to cheque account, and I have made use of their services in the last month
- 300 points for drawing cash at PNP till instead of at ATM (just need to be more from till than atm)
- 100 points for never going into a branch
- 100 points for using my cheque card to make a purchase on line. I do this via paying my Telkom bill on the Telkom website.
- 100 points for emailed statements
- 100 points for having account open for more than 3 years

That is already 1500 points. You need to get 1550 points per month for 12 months to be on reward level 5, no booster needed. The last few points you can make up by spending like R1000-2000 on your card with swipes, you need to buy groceries ect anyways. It is very easy to be on level 5 without spending too much. Your spending should dictate your ebucks that you get back, not your ebucks reward level.
