Going to study this thread ...
Work out whether you will get to a high rewards level quickest via cheque account or credit card. Choose one; I would think you won't be able to easily elevate both at the same time without it costing you more money than its worth.

Then put the plan in motion to make it happen. It will take months to get there but worth it once you arrive.

Its actually not so easy to get to level 5 on credit card...I tried, and always stuck on level 4. Then worked my cheque account up, which was far easier to do. Then moved all my spending over to the cheque account. Cheque account is worth it, I get free 4Mbps uncapped because of level 5 on the cheque account, you can't get that with the credit card. Also cheque account is easier, so 2 reasons to just focus on that, other than the obvious its a bad habit to live on the credit card.

Well I prefer the credit card because all my debit orders are on the cheque account and the *******s let the debit orders go off as late as the 10th of the month. It is BS discrimination especially for those of us with self control that pay off our credit cards every month

eh?
Normally you can specify the date debit orders go off, and I've never seen one more than 1 or 2 days late (usually involving a weekend or public holiday)

Hey guys,

Don't shoot the messenger, but I didn't know of this Account Add-on/Feature, since I never visit branches.

Anyway. FNB have an Account option where you can 'bank your change'. They basically create a Smart Savings Account and all cents left over after a transaction done gets transferred to this account.

Now I don't earn nearly the fraction most of you guys do, but just in a week or so I managed to get R53 worth of cents in this Savings Account.

You can't withdraw from this Account at an ATM, you also can't swipe or transact from it as far as I know, but you can transfer from the Account inbetween your FNB Accounts, so it will always be available.

I hope it helps someone out there who doesn't know of this option and who would like to add it to their banking profile.

Shot.

Welcome to it.

Have had the savings pocket with the bank your change since the start (4 years now)

Pfft, I've tried that. Always on the 25th or 1st a d for the most part the debit orders are on schedule. But the odd one every now and again only gets transacted at a later date.

But that's besides the point - I like using my credit card

savings pocket is just a transactionless account. you need to activate the bank your change feature... two different things.

I was sure I did that when I called and spoke to someone at the call centre to setup the account...

Can I do that online?

I did mine over the phone. so have no idea. I wouldn't be able to check for you as mine is already enabled.

I tried yesterday. I opened a savings pocket but couldn't find the option to enable the change thing. I emailed them, hopefully they get back to me today.

@ iDOL - any move from FNB to increase their participating vendors?
If I look at uCount, from a grocery shopping perspective, there are significantly more.

Gonna be a bugger(from an input cost pov) if to get to level 5 (and earn maximum eBucks), you will need a FNB cheque AND a FNB credit card...

I'm not seeing the BYC option either (just opened a savings pocket).
Odd.

Really pointless having this "wonderful" online banking functionality, yet we still have to call in to activate simple things like bank your change...
