FNB and PayPal Weirdness

On the 30th of April I did a withdrawal from my PayPal account to my linked FNB cheque account for the amount of $40 to test that everything is working properly.

Today I logged into my FNB online banking and checked the PayPal wallet. It shows a TopUp transaction to the PayPal account for the amount of ZAR40 and that the transaction status in completed - exactly the opposite of what it is supposed to be.

No funds have been deposited or withdrawn from my FNB account and my PayPal account does show a withdrawal of $40.

Phoned the FNB PayPal helpline and according to them the system only shows a withdrawal transaction and the funds should be available on the 7th.

I guess something must have gotten mixed up somewhere. Anyone else had a similar experience?

If you want to buy stuff using PayPal you can link it to your FNB account and then transfer the funds via a TopUp to the PayPal account without needing a credit card. The process does take a couple of days apparently so don't expect immediate results.

Have tried the 'funds to paypal' function. Took 48 hours to transfer the money into the paypal acc.

Just using paypal to withdraw an amount (pay for a service / item) was immediate.
So I am kind of shying away from it because of that delay

I can deal with the wait if it means I dont need to bring my Cred. card near the net :)

Does anyone know if the paypal thing applies to FNB current accounts or is it only for the cheque accounts and upward?

Some people have stated that it works with a Smart Savings account. From my experience I found the Smart cheque account works.

If you have online banking the best option is to check and see if the PayPal links are available in your banking profile. If they are visible your existing account should work with PayPal. You might just have to use a CC to verify your PayPal account.

Checked my account again and this time it shows the correct transaction. The funds are still pending though. Does anyone know how long it normally takes to withdraw funds from PayPal?

The funds were finally deposited into my account this morning. It seems the withdrawal process takes around 6-7 business days.

I'm very happy with the service. Compared to receiving funds via cheque this is MUCH cheaper and much faster. To withdraw the $40 FNB charged me a whole R 4.32. If it was a cheque the minimum amount would have been in the region of R120+.

As for the TopUp process, I've heard that it can take up to 48 hours, depending on when you do it

I've linked my FNB card to my PayPal account. I needed to pay $50 to China. The money shows that it's been deducted from my account but PayPal sent me a email saying the transaction is pending.
What does it mean?
This is my first foreign transaction using PayPal.
