You get the following extra:

1. Slow lounges
2. Ebucks discount is capped at 2.5%, compared to 1.x% for gold
3. Mobile data is more, I think

Thats about it. Nothing special.
Jip, nothing special

Not only is my money available immediately when transferring between accounts, but even when transferring to other SB customers. My brother can refresh his accounts immediately after I transferred money to him and the money is available for use.

We have two employees with SB accounts, that regularly deposit money into our SB business account.
The one employee's deposits are available immediately (Private Banking), while the other is available only after 24 hours (Elite Banking).

Not sure why there is a difference.

I have the standard bank one. Its an actual private banking option compared to the premier service of FNB. The difference is I have one banker who deals with all my needs. I never have to go into the branch, she can take care of everything over the phone.

I had a friend who was on the fnb premier option , and he got fed up with being passed on to a different premier banker evertime he called the hotline. He switched to Standard and the service is much better.

Just my 2c

Agreed. FNB premier service sucks.

It took them 1 week to get authorisation if my ID Number can be shown on a proof of banking details letter.
Then they forget to attach the letter to the email :(

Do you have a Standard Bank credit card? Because mine is Visa and my cheque account is Mastercard, so Im wondering how you are getting instant transfers between the two. I want to change my bank account types to what you have. Which ones do you have?

I am with standard bank. My cheque card is Visa, my credit card is Mastercard.

Transferring from credit card to debit card is instant. Not so the other way around.

May be an inconvenience sometimes, but I say it as a good thing. A gentle reminder to never leave my credit card maxed. All in all I am happy though. Does what I need.

When I still had an FNB Platinum account I had 1 premier banker who I contacted for everything (& whose details where listed on my online banking profile). I didn't have to call a hotline.

I don't know if things have changed in the year since.

It apparently changed to a hotline recently. Which is why he swapped over

I have tried both, started with FNB in Feb this year when I started working. The "Premier Banker" didnt even know her own products, opened up the wrong account for me and about a month later was the correct account only opened. Never had a good experience dealing with FNB "Premier bankers". Their email and hotline responses are no better than any normal banking channels.

Approached Standard Bank in November, within a day I had a private banker phone and setup an appointment to go over the details of the account. She had the account opened within 2 days and cards ready very soon after. Service i've received from Standard Bank has been worlds apart from FNB's. Any requests are dealt with within a few hours as opposed to a few days by FNB. Even the switching over hasnt been a hassle as the banker sorted out my debit order and salary switching.

Im sure there are others out there who would disagree, but this was my experience with the banks. Would definitely recommend the Standard Bank option.

On the FNB platinum option, you can still get a dedicated premier banker if your gross is above a certain amount (I think 800K). I personally have not been impressed by the FNB premier bankers, their product knowledge was pretty abysmal. I will be requesting to be re-assigned in the new year - just need my current issue sorted with the current one :-(
