Most banks have less crap to deal with, FNB’s fraud problems don’t seem to ever go away.
Well, all I can say is that Std Banks' new app is going to use something similar. I don't know all the intricacies but it is for fraud prevention.

Is this the same fraud system that allows you to have 2.9 million withdrawn from your account before you are sued?
I don't work for FNB, just giving insights where I can. Their ****ups are on them!

Try it. Get a VPN and login to the app, logout, change location, login again.. repeat. I've tested this, and my VPN has GPS spoofing enabled as well. No warnings or anything from FNB.
And your payments went through?

Then there was this one time - when FNB would not let you paste passwords from your password manager.

So I sat meticulously entering a 30 something digit password full of squiggles and funny characters and stuff on my phone; knowing that if I got this wrong 3 times I would have to go to one of their branches to sort it out and that my life would never ever be the same after that. Also, don't think that you can just press the "eye" icon to see the password you have typed and help you with this. It does all that but then erases everything you have typed and you have to start over.

Worse issue for me is buying electricity.. the flow is bottom right click thru.. well till you need to auth. Then it expects you to click a tick box and auth via middle of screen.

If you click on proceed and not logged in it counts as one failed attempt(if you logged in i click proceed and it’s done so every time u open app and go direct without logging in this happens as the UX is different).

And here’s the kicker.. that count never resets. So after 3 times you get locked out and have to reset password which u can’t paste and I prefer the random generated long ones.. so thanks to FNB I have set it to a shorter dumb one till I find time to set it right.

Forex is also fun, randomly system is down and you need to restart the entire thing.
Form doesn't tell you you forgot to say what province (you need to hit n/a if not south africa, it doesn't auto default to that) until end of the step after.
Selecting the specific 503 is difficult as it cuts off the values, it's 503 - something - 1 - ... and then counts through to 14 or whatever, but the after dash is what says "cash" "rent" or whatever, so each time I need to go look up the table.
No search for long dropdowns.
Can't use previous addresses of the person as defaults even though sent multiple times before.
etc.

Standard bank was worse, features were just outright missing, but they might have fixed some by now. Absa is even worse (wtf is that picture system on log in the entire time).

Minor thing this, but twice now in the last month I've needed to make a payment and email a quick proof of payment. On desktop this is easy - make payment, download the payment pdf & send.

On the app. No such luck. The only option is to send the recipient an automatic proof of payment that costs money to send. A bit scummy pushing the app but then removing a feature and forcing you to pay for something that really - they can go **** themselves expecting people to pay for something like this.

I also prefer just sending the pdf myself so I know it's done and there's a single email trail with everything in it.

/rant.

(Or it's there an I'm missing it?)
wow, you pay for an email proof of payment? o_O Not very innovative of them...
But but MyBB users say so.... so guess it must be set in stone:oops:

Other things that they need to improve ASAP. It’s easy to fix..

When viewing a transaction:

1. Show what card used it.. I can see it on 22Seven but not on FNB app wtf.

2. Tell me if it was a CNP (card not present) transaction .. those mean your card details are captured somewhere or you entered it.

3. Tell me if it was a virtual or physical card.. especially with point 2.

The entire app is a dog's dinner. They ignored the first principles of what an app is meant to be and built a fully featured website instead, and with dire CX and UX to compound the shittery.

Oh my word. Somebody else sees what I see. Whoever designed their app and website, must have been on heavy meds.

It is a piece of s...

The one that I really hate is when I do a "scan to pay" (so that I can maximise eBucks, ideally using a virtual card) and then I get the horrible little rolling-wheel card selector. Except that it doesn't actually show me the name of the cards, and there's 20 (Because FNB encourages you to create virtual cards for everything) including my global cards (which I would NEVER use at a local Engen).

And so I stand there, scrolling on my phone while the guy behind the counter looks at me funny, trying to figure out which stupid card to use. And then the QR code on the scanner changes and I have no idea whether my transaction has timed out or not...

You're right. That rolling-wheel card selector thing sucks. And I also don't understand why it doesn't show the card names, but I think you might be self-inflicting the pain here.

Specifically for Ebucks purposes, you don't need to have many virtual cards, just one. And you don't need to use them for all your day to day transactions, just the four transactions for Streaming points. Other than that, just use your physical CC. That's how I do it... Unless you're trying to achieve something else?

I close all my FNB accounts, now I get a daily SMS to remind me to download the FNB App onto my phone.

For this?

"Do at least 3 FNB Pay transactions (Tap to Pay, Scan to Pay or Checkout) or Partner Wallet* transactions.

- 0 points for "no"
- 500 points for "Yes"
- 1000 points for "Yes, using Virtual Card"

1631695449501.png

So in that instance I was trying to use a Virtual Card to do the Scan to Pay transactions, but I did actually end up adding a couple of cards for different online services (which I understood was kinda the whole idea) and thus the little rolling-wheel thing became unmanageable.

Luckily it looks like "Partner Wallet*" means Apple Pay, which is 1000x better than Scan to pay, so will switch over to using Virtual Cards through it. At least you have to select the card only once.

AND ON THAT POINT: I discovered another bug... :cautious: Adding a Virtual Card and immediately saying it should be added to Apple Pay....
- ...seems to default it to my Credit Card, even though I selected my Fusion account
- ...doesn't actually add it to the list of Virtual Cards. It literally only exists inside Apple Pay.

I did this twice and both times it went to my Credit Card. The only way I got around it was to add the virtual card first (without doing the Apple Pay step), then later go back to the card and then add it to Apple Pay.

Augh!
