FNB nails credit card fraudster in sting

Which is a pity. I would have liked to know how the fraud was perpetrated. MYBB should push FNB for more info.

They probably want to be able to re-use the process in future. The less operational detail they reveal the harder it is for future fraudsters to evade their methods.

Even thought I don't like the bank (my bank in fact but all the SA big-four banks suck) I'll happily read every article with results such as these - I hope that they throw the book at this guy.

Good for them sounds like some thieving bastard got canned and arrested .

So the "arrest of FNB employee" part and the "prosecute in every instance" part didn't hint at a charge being laid?

I've reported fraud on my cards a couple of times to FNB. The one time the criminals withdrew cash from an ATM in Lesotho from my credit card account (my card was with me in Cape Town) and they managed to bypass my ATM cash withdrawal limits. I never got any feedback from FNB fraud division as to what went down. They just silently refunded me a week or two later.

As a FSP they are bound by law to prosecute. If they don't they could face huge fines.
I am sure there are plenty inside operators inside banks.

Link the story here if/when that happens...

Quote from OP's link:

First National Bank (FNB) recently conducted a sting operation where it caught and dismissed an employee involved in internal credit card fraud.

MyBroadband received information that the sting operation was conducted at Bank City last week, and that it resulted in the arrest of an FNB employee.

Details about the sting operation remains sketchy, but FNB confirmed that it did conduct an investigation into the matter.

FNB also confirmed that an employee was dismissed following the outcome of the investigation.

“The bank has zero tolerance towards illegal activity and will prosecute in every instance,” said Charlaine Albertyn, head of fraud, FNB value banking solutions.

This is a white collar crime, most of the arrest involving white collar crime is based on a charged that was laid.......I'm gonna cry if I'm wrong on this

No he should also be charged not just dismissed
