New Credit Card.

Doesn't work everywhere so I get random declines. FNB says nothing wrong but eventually agrees to replace the cards. I mean, how can you have a credit card that does work everywhere?

New credit card issued.

FNB does not cancel the replaced card. FNB charges me an extra card fee.

Credit limit R30,000 but R7,000 put onto "Budget" without asking/telling me. So effective R23,000 limit.

Run up to R23,000 limit, thinking I had R30,000, so get 4 declined transactions. I'm also not sure whether declines are related to the random decline problem with the card. FNB charges me declined transaction fee.

Pump jockey puts transaction onto "Budget" without asking me. (FNB says petrol cannot be put on Budget. Well, it can, he did.) FNB charges me interest.

FNB takes no responsibility. Anything goes wrong, FNB charges the customer.

I am not taking this lying down. We will see where this ends.

BTW, all this for a lousy few eBucks. I still have a credit card with Standard Bank. I wouldn't have thought it possible but FNB are actually worse than Standard Bank. :crying:

1) Your responsibility to cancel the card, easily done through online banking.
2) The limits would have been in the documents they sent, which you would have had to read, and then send back ( or at least verbally confirm you've read them )
3) That's not really FNB's fault. Their systems cannot distinguish between chips and petrol bought at a garage, it's up to the station to enforce the policy.

I'm not saying FNB should take 0 responsibility, but you must admit that you are at least somewhat in the wrong. Also, WTF are you doing trying to max out a R30k credit card limit? That's looking for trouble.

1. My responsibility? They issue a replacement card and it is MY responsibility to cancel the defective card? I don't think so.

2. I applied online. I have gone back and searched the emails. No documents were ever sent. FNB says it should have been explained to me that part of the credit was apportioned to "budget". They never said that. Because I would have never agreed as I never use a credit card's budget facility. For the obvious reason > cost.

3. But it is definitely not my fault. Yet I get charged. :wtf:

As to maxing out the credit limit, some months I spend this much. I don't even have to try. I pay, so no trouble.

TWENTY THREE THOUSAND RAND on your credit card?

You are either piloting a sinking ship or making an absolute fortune to afford that kind of credit.

And if you can afford it, I have to ask myself why you need credit in the first place.

Contrary to popular belief, the banks are still giving credit away like nothing ;) You do NOT need to earn a fortune to get a card with R30k limit on it.

Go be a [ bold ] twat somewhere else. Somebody elses finances are non of your business and making a personal attack at him is low.

Its called access to cash flow. A principle used in business where having access to cash allows one to make use of opportunities that would normally not be available. The OP could have bought furniture on his credit card that was marked down. Could have paid for an emergency expense. Might have decided to invest in his education.

Perhaps you should first think before you post.

23k is also small potatoes :p
I had a visitor over the weekend who regularly puts around R950k per month onto his credit card.
