JOHANNESBURG - Food Lover's Market management says it’s investigating the health and safety standards at its Diepkloof branch.
A video is circulating on social media of a rat eating food on display in the store.
This incident follows a Facebook post in December showing food at the branch being exposed to flies.
The video shows a rat on top of food that has been covered with plastic in the store’s fresh food section.
An employee is then seen taking the food and the rat away from the counter.

Food Lover's Market not aware of health challenges at Diepkloof branch

JOHANNESBURG – Management at Food Love'rs Market say they are not aware of any health and safety challenges at its Diepkloof branch.
This is after a video emerged on social media of a rat eating food on display in the store.
A Facebook post last month showed food at the branch being exposed to flies.
Food Lover's Market says it has been following health and safety protocol at its Diepkloof branch in Soweto, including conducting routine inspections.
Legal and Compliance Director Nigel Meintjies says: “The last inspection by Rentokil at the store was on 31 December.”

Kill all the cats! The are evil.

we work with a few shopping centres that have sterilized feral cat colonies. These shopping centres doesn’t have the rodent problems but superstition and old fat men prevent this system and numerous cats are killed and rodents take over.

Its easier to sterilize cats than to try and control rats.

Most people do not realise that when they are sleeping or not present, rats, mice, cockroaches and other creepy crawlies are on the prowl!

Lol one the girls talking in the video is commenting on how the rat isn't even afraid of people, possibly implying that the rat does this all the time.

lol a rat in a food shop makes news, really?

LOL. Strange world. In a normal world you report it to the health inspector who issues a warning..... Did management not respond when notified?
