I remember telling two managers at a Spar that a rat was scurrying around in the deli area. All they did was giggle and continue chatting

The Board of Food Lovers Holdings has, having seen the recent video and heard the public response to the state of the Diepkloof store, instructed the Franchisee owner to temporarily close the store with immediate effect. This will allow a team of specialists to go to into the store and do a deep clean to ensure that when the store re-opens in about a week’s time, it is again clean, hygienic, up to the normal Food Lovers standard and ready to operate at the level we demand of all of our stores, corporate and franchised.

That's the size of a rat in Gauteng? Pfffff, come to Cape Town, they're big enough to chase cats down here.

Mind you I saw a mouse in a Checkers Hyper just this weekend and have often seen the odd bird fly around in retail stores. Didn't think "ooh let's make a video for social media" though. This isn't exactly news.

It should be news, you don't know whether they'll just take the food out back and bring it out again an hour later.

And then somebody gets sick like that guy in the other thread and he can't do anything be cause he can't prove its their food that made him sick.

This is disgusting, and the fact that they have such lax standards makes me wonder about the hygiene in their other shops.

I have been sceptical of Food Lovers for a while and this confirms my suspicions. I used to go the one near the Foreshure.

Often suspected the workers of not washing their hands after coming out of loos et cetera.

Should be out in the back so that the rat can eat in peace, amirite?
On the other hand they do provide romantic candle light, think rats enjoy the scent of citronella when they eat. So it's not all bad for their rodent customers

LOL. Strange world. In a normal world you report it to the health inspector who issues a warning..... Did management not respond when notified?

Health inspector? This is not America or England. This is South Africa. No such thing as a health inspector here. Don't let the movies and TV cloud reality.

Food that is on special at FLM which is sealed is always suspect. Stopped shopping there after buying rotten food.

Kill all the cats! The are evil.

we work with a few shopping centres that have sterilized feral cat colonies. These shopping centres doesn’t have the rodent problems but superstition and old fat men prevent this system and numerous cats are killed and rodents take over.

Its easier to sterilize cats than to try and control rats.

Exactly. Also now something might be done about the problem
