Arjen Robben has apologised for diving during the first half of Netherlands' 2-1 last 16 win against Mexico at the World Cup.

Robben was denied a penalty on two occasions before a late foul on the winger by Mexico captain Rafael Marquez saw referee Pedro Proenca point to the spot, allowing Netherlands to complete a dramatic late comeback.

After the game Robben admitted diving on one of the first two occasions, when fouls were not given, but claimed the third time was a legitimate foul and said it is a tendency he must curb.

"I must apologise," Robben told Nederlandse Omroep Stichting. "The one [at the end] was a penalty, but the other one was a dive in the first half. I shouldn't be doing that."

And Suarez shouldn't be biting players.

You are a cheat Robben and should receive the same punishment as Suarez.

"If a referee invents a penalty, you're out of the World Cup." - Mexico coach Herrera.

They should issue red cards for blatant diving. Then it will stop very quickly.

If Robben had been sent off earlier in the game the final result may well have been different.

Should be easy to prosecute....he has admitted guilt. But Fifa won't do it because they are a bunch of tards

He hasn't admitted to the 3rd "dive". That was a legit foul in a way, but from the replays you can see that Robben purposefully didn't try to stabilize himself with his right leg, he just wiggled it in the air and let himself fall.

They need to do this, or dish out punishment post match also. Then the idea of trying a dive doesn't even enter the equation, even if the ref misses it

The ref actually missed 1 mexico penalty and 1 Holland penalty earlier on. Not a good performance by him

I can only recall one yellow for a simulation over the entire tournament.

There must have been over a hundred dives so why are the refs not taking action.

I would prefer them to analyse these types of incidents after the game and issue fines or bans for repeat offenders. The refs already have the option to yellow card them which they hardly ever do, so they will use the red card option even less.

Speaking in February of this year, FIFA president Sepp Blatter called for retrospective action to be taken against divers.
‘Video evidence can be used for serious breaches of the principle of fair play such as brawling, spitting at opponents, verbal insults and racist slurs, or for incorrectly awarded red or yellow cards,’ he said.

'In cases such as these we must make use of the avenues already open to us and intervene after the event if necessary.
‘In this context, we should include the faking of injury, intentional diving or time wasting in our considerations.’

So..... ?
