Really impressed by the costa rica coach. Parked the bus because they knew they are inferior and then tore the dutch team to shreds with good counters especially in the end. Even though it wasn't pretty costa rica play very good, but unfortunately van gaal just pulled a rabbit out of his ass with that krul sub and really impressed he chose the right way every time, so clearly they did they homework. Well played

which is also the reason why I don't have much hope for them against Messi and company....looking at their game today

Perhaps, but we all know what RVP can do and if this was a quiet night and they won, well maybe it's going to be closer than we think?

Who's gunna get to the final then?

My vote's going to Netherlands vs Brazil...

Germany are good, but I'm sure Brazil will have some 'luck' and Netherlands will keep diving in the box until they get a messy penalty!

WTF Brazil appealing against Thiago Silva's yellow... no one appeals for a second yellow, if Fifa grants the appeal then they definitely gonna let Brazil win the World Cup...

They will try to do everything possible to make sure Brazil will make it to the finals. FIFA is well known for cockriding WC hosts.

Given in inconsistency shown by referees in awarding yellow cards, I think the change in rules in 2010 to carry yellow cards into the quarterfinals is stupid.

Sure, consecutive yellows in a match or in consecutive matches, but carrying a yellow for five matches...

I still don't see why they don't utilise video evidence and a off-field referee to determine whether yellows should be awarded or not - and 'the ref didn't see' doesn't cut it when you have video coverage of the entire game.

Excellent post from Matthaus

http://www.goal.com/en-za/news/4684...guardiola-has-influenced-germany?ICID=HP_BN_2

"Winning is the most important thing at a World Cup. We've spent the past eight years playing attractive, technical football, with a style that nobody knew in Germany, and it was well-received,” Matthaus said.

“Now, there have been changes that have removed some of the 'beauty' in our game, but we're more focused on winning.

"In South Africa, Germany surprised everybody with their good football. Here in Brazil they're playing more efficiently, going in search of the win.

“Now our defence is more solid, and in Germany we say that the attack wins games, but the defence wins titles.

Yet people hate defensive football...
