Dear Lord

Please let England win tonight.

Come on, 1966 was so long ago, whatever they did wrong I'm sure they have been punished enough.

Amen.

PS: Oh, and please make them keep Lampard on the bench ( he is hopeless at WC goals ).

would it be blasphemous to post a slightly modified Hail Mary - wouldn't want to offend anyone...

Neither side can really afford a draw, however a draw could potentially be better for England since they face Costa Rica in the final game.

Imo Uruguay has to go for it. If England play it smart they should play it more defensive and try and take Uruguay on the counter with the pace of Sterling and Sturridge.

Neither team can afford to lose, either. As you mentioned, England do have the Costa Rica game to look at getting the result needed to see them out of the group.

I dunno. They have a lot of pace in that side. I would rather them do the Liverpool- press Uruguay early on, using their pace to get behind the Uruguay defence, get an early goal or two, then look to hit on the counter as the game progresses.

I've seen so many free kicks taken from the left or right side of the penalty box - and every one of them goes into the middle hoping to land on a head.

Does nobody have the skill anymore to attempt a curled kick directly into goal ?

Just have the feeling the Uruguay might go all out early on and if England can absorb the pressure they'll be able to exploit Uruguay at the back on the counter. If both teams go all out from the get go the game will become too open and then Suarez (if he plays) and Cavani will tip the scales in Uruguay's favor.

Anyway, it's Roy Hodgeson, so I think both of us are expecting way to much from England tactically. :p

I think that players don't have confidence in those sort of shots with the World Cup ball. It's becoming a common trend, it seems.

That would only be if England allowed Uruguay to impose themselves. They need to take the game by the scruff of the neck here, they have some pretty good players capable of doing that.

But...

is probably right, and why it won't happen.

Either way- hoping for a good game.

no doubt we'll have ourselves a good game. I just cant find it within to even vision Uruguay having a good game judging by their last performance. Forlan and Cavani are shadows of the players we know....IMO, Suarez is the only key to them really hitting hard at England.....

still tho...England to win it im sure.

I do realise this is a logical deduction in your brain using facts, current knowledge, historical data etc. But but but, after what has happened up to now in this Cup, can you honestly afford to use this expression..I'M SURE? :p

So far the only thing you can be sure of is Spain and Australia are going home.

Everything else is up for grabs.
