What result do we need for Engerland to be knocked out totally after this game?

Any result except Italy win and England are out.

If Italy win, they are still not through until the last match, but if Costa Rica win, they are through to next round.

These so called ' big teams ' just don't seem hungry anymore - and the so-called minnows are ravenous.

Just to clarify for everyone, the ranking rules for the group stages are as follows:

a) greatest number of points obtained in all group matches;
b) goal difference in all group matches;
c) greatest number of goals scored in all group matches.

If two or more teams are equal on the basis of the above three criteria, their rankings shall be determined as follows:

d) greatest number of points obtained in the group matches between the teams concerned;
e) goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams concerned;
f) greater number of goals scored in all group matches between the teams concerned;
g) drawing of lots by the FIFA Organising Committee.

Example here : http://m.bleacherreport.com/article...larifying-group-tie-break-scenarios-and-rules

To explain rules d,e and f. For example if Italy, Costa Rica and Uruguay all end up on 4 point, same number of goals scored and conceded....that is when they apply.

So they remove England (on 1 point) from the table, and all points, and goals involving England. Then they rebuild the table.

The worst is rule g , where its basically pulling the short straw

Based on Italy's performance Uruguay can beat them - so Italy would join England on the flight home.

So Costa Rica with a population of around 4,5 million have reached the last 16.

SA with a population of just over 50 million watches on telly.

Maybe time for our soccer team to turn to bowls :whistling:
