Access Denied to Save File

I am receiving an 'access denied' error every time I try to save the host file. I have followed the instructions exactly, but it is not working. Could someone please enlighten me?
Windows Vista.
I'm on the only user and I am an administrator.

Make sure that the file isn't set as read only.

Secondly, you need to run Notepad as Administrator, even if you are logged in as an Administrator user, unless you've disabled UAC of course.

BIND 9 Question

Thanks Pada

With reference to your BIND Tutorial:

2-b) Applicable to SAIX/Telkom Internet users only: Change IP address pointing to Google

Open c:\named\zones\db.google.com.txt in notepad
Replace "196.23.168.147" IP address with "165.165.38.147"
Save & close db.google.com.txt

If you are using traffic splitter with TELKOM as International and AXXESS as local would you leave "db.google.com.txt" as is and only change it if you are using TELKOM as local (when your TELKOM International is capped)

ok, what the someone could do to sieze this confusion about this methods, is they could post the update with the date next to it, the update would ofcause mean that it'd work as is for certain ISP's

Care to rewrite that paragraph of yours in something that is understandable?

Hi there, I am new to this forum and found this thread by mistake tonight. I did everything as stated after struggling for a while I actually connected to FB, now it does not want to connect.
Our Service provider is Telkom and we are on the Simple account with 1gig capped and 10 gig local
I am using the following IP for Facebook - 165.165.39.203
I tried connecting via m.facebook/com - it does not want to connect
Our DNS is 196.43.38.190
196.43.42.190

Anything else that I forgot....

Thanks
Natasha

monadup, that's because we didn't add m.facebook.com to the hosts file.
Try accessing it at www.facebook.com instead.

Alternatively, add the following to the hosts file:
Code:
<Facebook IP> www.facebook.com
, where <Facebook IP> should be replaced with 165.165.39.203 if you're using Telkom as your ISP.

Pada, this is how I have it. I could connect with these settings for about 10 min, and since then, nothing... really frustrating. I have restared the router as well, thought maybe it will work but didn't. The sad thing is I went and bragged on FB about being able to connect with our local only, and after posting it just went down.

Cannot connect to www.facebook.com

When I ping youtube i get a reply.

When I ping www.facebook.com or even the IP 165.165.39.203 the request time out

My Youtube is working though, could it be that telkom is blocking the IP or the server is down?

Pada I got it fixed. On the laptop - seems as if firewall is blocking the IP
On our desktop I still could not use 165.165.39.203 I the inserted 165.165.47.9 www.facebook.com and it words fine there.

The 165.165.39.203 seems to be down.

Thanks for your help

A few months ago Gmail stopped working. Recently FB stopped working. Managed to get FB working by changing some of the host file entries. Attempted the same with Gmail, absolutely no luck.

ISP: Telkom (Do Broadband 3) - currently capped so using local
ISP: Axxess for intl.

When attempting to access gmail I click on the link provided in the google webpage. This has worked previously but obviously not now.

Addressess attempted are: www.gmail.com, www.gmail.co.za, mail.google.com, gmail.com. None work. :pinging the addresses do provide a result (as far as I can tell), e.g.:

C:\Users\Frank>ping mail.google.com

Pinging mail.google.com [165.165.38.147] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 165.165.38.147: bytes=32 time=31ms TTL=60
Reply from 165.165.38.147: bytes=32 time=33ms TTL=60
Reply from 165.165.38.147: bytes=32 time=32ms TTL=60
Reply from 165.165.38.147: bytes=32 time=32ms TTL=60

Ping statistics for 165.165.38.147:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 31ms, Maximum = 33ms, Average = 32ms

Thanks for the assistance Pada.

does anyone know the local ip adress to force connect youtubes pagead2.googlesyndication.com for saix/telkom, because on the homepage (www.youtube.com) that page is ran through scripts and makes the page stop loading because its an international site, with local bandwidth it wont connect
