Forcing Google Services to local (RSA) IP address

hmmm I use Telkom Internet, and when using any of the saix IPs I can't connect to facebook. (tried this on international)

I cannot connect to Gmail or Facebook

•Overriding method that you're using : Host file
•ISP account name : MWEB 4GB Capped
•URL that's not working on local cap : Anything gmail (mail.google.com, gmail.com etc.)
•ping results to the hostname specified by the URL : 165.165.38.147 (Ping returns results without any issues)
•the DNS server's IP address that you're using : 196.22.160.12

Someone in SA should setup their own Proxy server to let people get on sites like facebook. If I had to use a web hosting server plan in SA, would they shut me down for running a proxy server on my site??

i am able to access Youtube-no problems there
but Facebook does NOT work on local for me.

ive copied the changes to the hosts file & it should work-since YouTube works fine.
im with Telkom.

and advice?

Yes www.facebook.com is not currently on akamai anymore (their photos & other CDN content are though) You can force it to use 69.63.191.11 which is based in the UK rather than the USA, so it will be a bit quicker

Probably because hosting dynamic content on CDN ain't easy. Hosting static content such as images, videos and music is very easy to do.

May I ask this stupid question: why can't ISP do this for their clients on their side--so if client enters these google services on his browser (machine), then ISP could auto-route the traffic locally without user intervention? Is this even possible? Cheaper for ISP, can send some of that savings the clients way!

Actually they do, do it, via use of DNS mostly.

The problem is when users start using other DNS servers not on the ISP's networ ect. Other times something happen, and to prevent users from having problems, the users get redirected to different clusters of servers, so that time can be spent to fix the local cluster, after which users will be redirected to it. Now many times these clusters work, but hey, preventative measures are better than hoping users won't experience problems when work is done on clusters of servers.

Hey, I am on TelkomInternet, I want to pull youtube off local as some videos are not streaming full speed causing buffering. Do I have to only use SAIX or can I add Webafrica and IS as I do not care where it pulls the content from I just want it to stream at full speed?
