Ford breakdown after warranty

So we have a 2019 Ford Ranger that went for it's 120 000km service on the 5th of August.
Never had a day's problem with it, but 3000km after the service, and after the warranty ran out on 120 000km, the gearbox breaks.
I'm not one for conspiracies but boy this is more suspect than a covid vaccine. Damage estimated at around R70k.
Now I get why there are so many Ford memes.

**** man, that's a real bummer. There's nothing like an R70K surprise to make your day awesome.

I'm gonna lead to conspiracy. But it is a Ford soooooo. Just be glad it didn't catch fire.
I mean it's not like you drove it quite a bit in less then 3 years right? I mean 120 000 in 2 years is 60k a year, when I did that in my old Astra the gearbox also caught fire.

Its not unheard of that people were able to get a warranty claim done after expiry. sometimes cost split too.
I passed my service plan, because i delayed the service as car was being panelbeated and they re-instated it. Sure my reason is sound, but maybe you can argue that its unreasonable/in bad faith what happened to you. maybe see other similar cases and try.

Damn, only 2 years old as well. Even with that gearbox thing I’m sure you can still get good money for it. It’s a double cab (I’m assuming) that’s liked on the second hand market.

Thanks, I did contact Ford South Africa and will wait for their feedback. The dealership where it was serviced basically said it's not their problem.

Supercab. After gearbox repair and settlement we'd be lucky to walk away with R100k.

Just out of interest sake, is it one of those newer models that came with a 7 or 9 speed auto gear box? When I went to service my Fiesta last year they were bragging to me about that "new tech" etc etc, and I thought that seems like a marketing shill that will never be reliable in a bakkie

I've been hearing the jokes about Ford's reliability since I can remember. Experienced it myself with both a Fiesta and a Kuga, the latter car's value tanking thanks to the fire issue.

The brand can go fsck itself IMO.

My parents had a similar thing happen to a BMW. They actually agreed back then to cover the parts and my parents the labour.

LOL. What was the workshop's stance? Wear&Tear?
Nope they said they had never seen that happen before. It turned into a two month nightmare from lies about the replacement park being shipped to not wanting to loan me a temporary vehicle!

Then when I did finally get the vehicle back the fuel consumption shot through the roof.
I get PTSD just thinking about it.

Dealing with Ford taught me something: always insist that they put whatever BS feedback/explanation regarding your vehicle, on paper. That alone is what helped me not to get screwed over at great personal expense when presented with mechanic/workshop amnesia.

@The_Mowgs also had bad fortune with his Ford the month after it expired
But I think he came right with Ford and they are doing a repair "out of goodwill'

Speak to your local dude and see if they can come to some sort of arrangement. I know Donford BMW in Stellenbosch does with the motorbikes if you have always been supporting them with your services etc

Freewheel it downhill into a lekker big tree.
Claim for new vehicle and pay your excess
You're welcome
