I got my Dear John letter this morning.
Thank you Ford for your outstanding security to this point. I hope the employee got fired for selling client data.
Doubt its for telemarketing purposes, I would rather call hi-jacking/car-jacking.

"Dear John Doe

We regret to notify you that Ford Credit has identified an internal data leak whereby personal information of some Ford Credit customers was shared with parties external to our organization. We are contacting all affected customers.

Unfortunately, this leak encompassed some of your personal information, including identity number, vehicle description, address and contact details. Ford Credit takes the protection of personal data extremely seriously and has taken proactive steps to address the potential risk to our customers. To this end, we have secured the devices of all known parties implicated in the leak and have destroyed or will destroy the confidential data contained on these devices.

Based on our investigation we believe that the data was intended for telemarketing purposes. Therefore, please be extra vigilant should any external parties contact you.

We value you as a customer and want to assure you that we have taken precautionary measures to protect you and your financial interests.

First, we maintain comprehensive controls and processes to protect your data and constantly improve them to ensure we adapt to the evolving techniques used by criminals to bypass them. We have already refined our controls and processes in light of this compromise to further strengthen our defences and reduce the risk of a future incident."

Gotta love that ..

"We maintain comprehensive controls and processes to protect your data" yet some random got the data onto their devices and managed to exfil them to a 3rd party.

Whats a bet the data was stored in a Excel spreadsheet on a server somewhere with open access?

I just received this exact e-mail this morning. Is this a new leak? Same employee? Or did it just take them 4 months to get to me?

The vehicle was paid off over 5 years ago, so they have zero reason to still have my details on record...
