Today I test drove one of these beauties and let me just say I absolutely fell in love with the car. I've never been a fan of automatic cars, but I think I've now been converted.

The salesman however was going on about how the future value of the manual Ecoboost would be more than the automatic coz its going to be a hard sell, he obviously wanted me to buy the brand new manual one. But it got me thinking, would it be a good buy? Should I be worried about future sales value? I'm not planning on upgrading anytime soon after buying the Powershift and I though automatic was the future??

The salesmen usually just talk up whatever they're trying to shift or what makes them more comm. Be wary when they try to steer you in another direction. Then again, I'm a hardcore cynic.

Should be fine if it doesn't burn out before you sell it :p

Auto is the way to go, as far as I can tell this is a DCG ?

I got the Clio dual clutch , it's certainly something to get use to.

I've actually got to like it in that sort amount of time.

I'm taking a friend's DSG for a test drive tomorrow, wanna see how much of a difference I'll feel.

The time will come, I think at 60,000km, when the transmission will need an oil change.

Find out what the cost will be. If you are happy with that then all good and OK.

On a Fiesta, an auto will be more difficult to sell when the time comes and your trade in value might be affected due to that. If you're keeping the car for a while, this shouldn't be much of an issue

Automatics are taking over, and in a couple years manual gearboxes will be very rare on new cars. If you keep the car for a bit, it should be more popular by the time you sell.

Agree, who in this day in age still drives a manual ?

I simply cannot believe that a manual would sell better or for a higher price.

Quite the opposite. The auto should sell much more easily.

I certainly won't be buying a manual again unless it's a very sporty second car for weekends only and even then it would need to be amazing.

Manual or stick-shift cars will still be the big seller in the A; B & C-segment for a number of years to come. But yes the number of manual 'boxes is dwindling.

Test driving that car in lunchtime traffic was such a good experience. Not stressing over being in the correct gear or getting my car off the mark at a traffic light was the best feeling.

I would have loved an auto when I got my car. I was sweating bullets the first few days.
