Are you a new driver?

Been driving a manual car for about 4 years now and if you've ever driven in peak hour traffic you would know how annoying it can be to drive a manual car. Gear up, clutch, Gear Down and repeat :erm:.

And yes I was one of those "people who drive automatic, can't drive" people.

Yeah, it's not nice. I'll probably never buy a manual car again. Most of your travel is between traffic lights anyway. Where is the fun in that? Fortunately, I'm not in Cape Town or any of the other big cities.

Today I test drove one of these beauties and let me just say I absolutely fell in love with the car. I've never been a fan of automatic cars, but I think I've now been converted.

The salesman however was going on about how the future value of the manual Ecoboost would be more than the automatic coz its going to be a hard sell, he obviously wanted me to buy the brand new manual one. But it got me thinking, would it be a good buy? Should I be worried about future sales value? I'm not planning on upgrading anytime soon after buying the Powershift and I though automatic was the future??

You can pick up a demo model, less than 5k km, for much less than brand new especially the titanium models. Picked up a manual ecoboost titanium for R225k and list price is around +R255k. Love my little ecoboost! Very good list of features on the Titanium models with the Titanium pack and leather seats. Have some extras that my parents 3er doesn't :whistling: if you can haggle you can get it down to R220k or less.

With regards to resale, I'm not sure at all but don't listen to the salesperson do your homework properly. I dont plan on selling anytime soon :D

So my 2015 Ford Fiesta Ecoboost is at the dealership - thought I would share if anyone else is having the same issues.

I had a check engine light come on - opened the bonnet and yes the engine was there :crylaugh:
Drove the car to Action Ford in Roodepoort was told that the car needed a software upgrade and I could wait for it, 30 minutes later car comes around next to the waiting area ( BTW what is it with mechanics at dealership and the way they brake). Jump in and the check engine light is off

2 days later I get the check engine light again, drive back to the dealership last week Thursday. Booked the car in, get a call on Friday saying that the car will have to remain at the dealership as the fuel pump seems to be the cause and they have approved a replacement under the warranty. The strange part was the car never missed a beat, if you put a sticker over the check engine light and drove it you wont say there was anything wrong with the car , pulled off perfectly and had enough power no miss.

I should hopefully get the car back this afternoon - driving a Honda Brio at the moment and I can tell you I missed that Ford a lot. No Offence to the Brio drivers but that automatic gearbox feels like it came off a 1986 Toyota corolla actally the one from 1986 felt smoother.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Luckily mines been smooth sailing (knock on wood).

I've been enjoying this little pocket rocket. I drove my sister's manual Yaris on Saturday evening as my car was blocked in and uhm it wasn't fun at all, so I know how you feel.

Manual or stick-shift cars will still be the big seller in the A; B & C-segment for a number of years to come. But yes the number of manual 'boxes is dwindling.

Brand new maybe sure...because they are cheaper.

Second hand with the option of a manual or auto for the same price? People are going to take the auto.

That's US of A. They are always ahead or behind the car curve depending on how you look at it.

Well in most cases it's pre-ordained by the fact that the manual option on many cars simply doesn't exist.

So there really isn't a choice and that's why it ends up being 3% only.

Car is back and it is actually running better from when I got it new. I suspect it had a faulty fuel pump all the time. That car use to rocket off the line now it does it even more aggressively. The coolant pump was also changed under warranty although I didn't notice a leak or any overheating issues.

P S The Honda Brio was someone elses car I was using.

Does anyone actually feel the difference when using the sports mode in this car?

I noticed that the car holds the rev into the higher RPM before changing, I noticed much difference if you put the car into Sport Mode and you use that little switch to change gears the car will not intervene allow you to touch the red lines ( it will show you a shift indicator on the dash) but if you start being stupid with the revs it will definitely intervene then.

So the Ford has been back at the dealership for the check engine light again - third time hopefully they figure it out by now. This gave me a change to try out an Ecosport 1.5NA manual 2017 model baseline for a week.

I miss the power and the torque of the Fiesta, the ecosport is very lazy :crylaugh: on the plus side a manual gearbox is so much more fuel efficient that an auto - I know everyone is going to grill me on this but I have first hand experience with the powershift vs a manual gearbox, this is shifting like a normal decent human being. When you get on the highway and you tear up every gear then that's a different story. I am still quite surprised at the difference in fuel efficiency even though this ecosport is heavier and sits quite high off the ground, makes me wonder if its because this is a standard baseline model with no extras vs the Fiesta in titanium guise.

Has anyone here had the check engine light issue with a ford?

Yes, my old Fiesta ST. I am sure you will find my story here somewhere, but my problem might not be related to yours.

I have mostly used sports modes when overtaking. Just to get it down safely and has fast as possible, less time on the wrong wide of the road the better.

You do know that Sport mode has nothing to do with performance? Just traction.
