trainee petrol attendant? you mean there is training course to wash your windows and fill the car with petrol.

so is there a course for car guards? to wave their arms around and say I'll watch your car,
yes there's training involved. Don't be a dufus.

seriously, what sort of training?
I mean in the rest of the world, ***shock and horror*** you fill your OWN car with petrol...

so you saying Americans that cant even find South Africa on a map, need to go on TRAINING to fill their own cars with "gas"
such a ridiculous notion anyway, like a car guard university, or a street hawker academy...

Believe me, there's instructions. To follow it means to be trained.
You're intentionally being slow.

what instructions? no seriously?

put attendant tag in reader,

open filler nozzle on car,
fill to whatever customer whats,
collect money, or bring around card machine,

rinse, repeat, ad nauseam.
profit.

you dont need training, besides a quick little explanation of how to fill petrol
you dont need training manuals, and a instructor and to sit for months on the "art" of petrol filling.

I mean, next thing youll need to write exams to be a car guard?

This makes any sense to you? If an American cant find SA on a map then surely he/she needs instructions to use a pump hahahaha...

Are we not talking about fuel? is fuel not flammable? You're sitting at your keyboard telling me that they will send an unskilled attendant to attend to member of the public, handling fuel which is flammable and all your one lane mind can think of is using a pump and a tag?
Who will tend to small blazes until the fire dept gets there?

they need training whether you like it or not. Or rather don't train them, surely they don't need to know the diff between petrol and diesel, High mileage vs low mileage oil. Not all customers are clued up on what theyre looking for. This is where attendants come in and make educated decisions...

From today onwards....respect what these guys do

Reminds me of the time in primary school when my friend challenged me to a soccer ball tapping contest. Beat him and for some weird reason he decided he aint playing because he had better things to do.

no, I'm saying Americans that fill their OWN cars with "gas" DONT go on training courses.
so locally here in SA, why does a petrol station attendant NEED to go on a TRAINING?

its the simplest job imaginable, and you literally need to know nothing in order to do it.
so I cant figure out why on earth you would need to send somebody on training? besides a quick familiarization of a few small things.

when you mention training, I figured they sit for months and weeks, learning the way to use a petrol pump.

and why I mention overseas, as overseas, YOU psychically do EVERYTHING!!!!
fill your OWN tank, pay for it, and wash your OWN windows.

I get it that accidents can happen, thats why the supervisor or owner is usually around to deal with this.
the attendants? probably run away or try to loot the shop while it burns to the ground...

you dont NEED ANY skills to be a petrol station attendant, and you Definitely DONT need to sit for weeks in TRAINING
on how to fill peoples cars with petrol.

I know Im being harsh, but seriously, training? Dude, you can fire all your attendants,
and replace them that same afternoon with people off the street quite easily.

you right , no real rocket science in the actual job --maybe ,thinking more in lines of the occupational SHEQ of the job, end of the day.... potential stepping stone to something greater...and one less lost soul.

respect? I suppose I could respect them for doing this job for so little pay.

but in all honestly, live overseas for any length of time, and one realizes YOU can actually fill your OWN car quite easily with fuel
and pay for it, and everything WITHOUT some guy NOT listening to you and bending your windshield wiper, because the "tip" isn't what he wanted.

I guess no job needs training. Just show the front desk clerk where the files go and you're good to go. Health and safety? Just tell her to wash her hands before and after using the ablution facilities.

Wrt training.. working with hazardous/flammable so need to do the H&S for fire. Also which type of fire retardant / extinguisher to use.. when to alert others to evacuate etc.

Standard stuff me thinks.. pretty sure they will have a variety of extinguishers around and using the wrong one won’t help.

Granted I’ve not heard of many fires at petrol stations.. so there’s hope for smokers as they seem to have some self preservation instincts lol

To get the licence, you need training.

and to pass a test, and and and...
but you see Kombi drivers skipping red lights and stopping on freeways all the time.

that's if they even did their license, and didn't buy it like so many do.

so maybe there is some sort of black market for petrol station attendants training?
where one guy called "sipho", "sells" his training to anybody else,

all they have to do is say their name is "sipho", and the job is theirs.
