crime deterrent?

Im sure those guys serve as lookouts for their buddies that come and rob people who leave their laptops/jewellery on the front seat.
or the ATM that looks easy to attach a bomb to blow it up.

or to their taxi buddies on who they stole petrol/oil from to sell at a nice markup.
Jasas this guy has nothing good to say about petrol attendants and we all know why.
Thinking the worst of folk you don't know wont get you anywhere. You come off as a little spoilt brat you know bra.

indeed...but then again @eg2505 would prefer to pump his own gas. Probably a black belt in klap en skop.

yes, definitely, pump your OWN gas, and go away with your begging for tips.
and while you at it, I dont need some begger wearing a hi vis vest to guide me out of a parking.

Managing director of a Volvo dealership gave him a job as a trainee petrol attendant? He couldn't put him in the workshop or something?

Petrol attendants beg for tips? If ever I've heard a lie.
You're not obligated to give the "beggar" a cent. Forever complaining like an aunty with wet pantys....sheeesh.

but bare in mind. That beggar will be there whether you like it or not Mr sour.

Where do you fuel your car? I've never seen attendants begging for tips. I've fuelled in EC, KZN, GP, MP, etc; never seen it.

live anywhere else in the world, and one discovers something peculiar.
all these people, while nice to have, are really unnecessary.

you are perfectly capable of putting petrol in your own car, I mean you have 2 arms right?
and you are perfectly capable or reversing out of a parking bay right, you have 2 eyes right?

you DONT need all these people, they just unnecessary,
I do however realize why they are here, its to create employment for otherwise unemployable people.

same thing with the fiber guys who repeatedly dig up and uncover trenches.
labor is cheap, especially unskilled labor.
hence why we have a LAW that says you NEED a PETROL station attendant, and he MUST be trained.
(even though its the easiest thing in the world)

so yes, were behind the rest of the world on a bunch of people that do nothing
but stand around waiting to do a job you could EASILY do yourself.

being all technical....Who gives a d@mn if you pump your own gas in the States? here we have joggies....They earn a d@mn living by doing so. Because God knows had they been unemployed then the same group of whining Aunties would be here complaining that they're out there sleeping on their doorsteps, stealing, robbing etc.

ITS A EFFIN GOOD DEAD MAN....For once stop acting your colour or shoe size...maybe both...

MD at a Volvo dealership and organised the guy a job at a petrol station...
Campher, whose family also owns the Engen petrol station on the same premises, then gave him a uniform, a trainee bib and an opportunity to show what he was made of.

And so far, he has been impressed.

"He's a real nice chap and he's done so well. The amazing thing is that people who got used to him being on the street corner started asking where he is and what happened to him. Then they found out he is working here."

The perfect way of doing it, I think...

We're not behind....if it creates a job how can that be such a big issue????? Man you're just bitter through and through. Zero logic too. In a country with our economic state how could creating a job be such a bitter pill to swallow???

True, I am more than willing to pour petrol/diesel myself. Put a cash/EFT machine on pumps.

Just look at the job listings here on MyBB. Kak pay for a job where you need to be able to quite a few things.

One must improve oneself

seen it a few times, bend your wiper if you dont "tip generously"
Haven't ever seen that. And anyway tips are normally given after you've filled up/had windscreen cleaned etc, so do they quickly grab your wiper arm again after that? Weird.

I've been to the UK, and elsewhere, and you DONT need it, no in all Honestly you DONT, its simple enough anyway...

If you've been "and elsewhere" you would know that there are plenty of places where full-service service stations are still a thing. Do away with them in SA and you'll save a few cents per litre but congratulations you've got less convenience. Quite frankly by the tone and content of your contribution to this thread you're way to highly strung to be dispensing petrol yourself.

because instead of doing something useful, that advances the country or society.
you do an antiquated job, that the motorist can EASILY do themselves.

same thing with cashiers, WHY do you need them? I mean self service checkout is very easy to implement
but instead we need the same lady with same attitude looking at you funny if you brought your own bags,
or you have your woollies or smart shopper card saved on your phone, and she needs to TYPE it in to the machine.

I just have a problem with these "filler" jobs,
yes I realize what they are for. any why they still around, but they are more people than we ever actually need.
I mean automation is coming, like it or not,

and what going to happen to these people?
youll have a self service checkout, operated by a cashier?
or like we have right now, a petrol station pump FULLY EQUIPPED with self service,
with an ugly attendant tag for the useless guy doing what you perfectly capable of doing.
