Eskom's former finance manager has been found guilty of defrauding the company of R35-million, while the power utility continues to be hit by rolling blackouts.

Bernard Moraka will be sentenced for running a two-and-a-half-year scam with Victor Tshabalala, the sole director of Meagra Transportation, the company that scored 53 fraudulent payments for work not done.

In a statement issued in October 2019, Eskom said of the case: “This is indeed part of the Eskom clean-up campaign as this matter is one of the priority cases tracked by Eskom.” Eskom’s debt stands at R402-billion, according to the company’s chief executive, Andre de Ruyter.

Moraka and Tshabalala ran the scam from January 2016 to September 2018.

Tshabalala pleaded guilty to all counts, but Moraka professed his innocence, despite the state having evidence against him that included bank statements.

Only the finance manager?

I drive past Megawatt park multiple times a day sometimes going to work or elsewhere. It is extremely rare to see any cars using the employee lanes below R800k. its always 3-series, A4's, Qs, GL/E's etc etc. its amazing.

Nothing odd about that though, I take it employees at Megawatt Park are the one's earning the big bucks, lowly paid staff are relegated to regional offices.

Really love how honest and to the point the magistrate was - it's a shame these fraudsters see nothing wrong with having so many dependents whilst knowing they are engaging in illegal activities, only to use the dependents as an excuse for a potential lesser sentence

Get FARKED you corrupt leeches!
Good things happen when you first take the assets and money, no limitless budgets endless postponements and delays, lawyers are expensive.

I hope it goes the same way for the others.

Out in 8 years or so, and hopefully put onto the streets. Government should be taking all their assets away to mitigate what they stole. Long shot they'd do that and not steal it themselves, but it IS possible to do so.
Have an auction, all proceeds to paying off Eskom's debt slowly but surely.

It emerged during the trial that Moraka had remarried and taken the five children from his new marriage around the world with his ill-gotten gains, including to places such as Disneyland in the US and Paris in France.
I wonder if these new 5 kids are all his or he's just a cuck.

Excellent, thanks!

ALL corrupt criminals involved in state capture and looting should have this done to them. They should not be released from jail and go back to their life of luxury (relative or not).
Hopefully the start of many more such sentences to come...

Sums up what the ANC stands for - live a corrupt life of luxury at the expense of others no matter the cost.

Yes, agreed. And the sooner they can accelerate this all the better. Mass trials of the corrupt followed by the clink of the key in the cell door and the knowledge they have NO ill-gotten gains to be released to go back too.

Hopefully a sign of things to come, now concentrate and dedicate your efforts to the corrupt politicians and other government employees.
