Former NASA Climate Chief Warns That Earth Could Become “Practically Ungovernable”

Simply fixating on the potential negative effects of climate change instead of focusing on efforts to combat it will not help our planet. However, climate change predictions are the reason these efforts matter, and they provide valuable insights as to how we should take action.

According to former NASA climate research head James Hansen, the effect of climate change we should be most focused on isn’t the warming of the atmosphere. It’s the rising sea levels.

Hansen told New York Mag that he doesn’t think the atmosphere will actually warm as much as some have predicted by the end of the century, but he does think that sea levels will rise significantly due to melting polar caps. “I don’t think we’re going to get four or five degrees [Celsius] this century, because we get a cooling effect from the melting ice. But the biggest effect will be that melting ice,” he asserted. “In my opinion that’s the big thing – sea-level rise.”

UNBEARABLE CONDITIONS

In a paper published last year, Hansen warned that continuous reliance on fossil fuels could increase sea levels by several meters in just a period of 50 to 150 years. That seems like a long time, but Hansen’s predictions are significantly greater than the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s projected range of sea level rise of 30 centimeters (~1 foot) to just under a meter (3.2 feet).

There was a Google link I found a few years back which showed the effect of raising sea levels. It allowed the user to change our input different levels and show its effects anywhere around . As I recall, places like the Cape Flats would be badly affected.

So would where I currently reside, My work place sits in a dip and would be a new primary real estate site to look over for a sea view

Increased weather anomalies related to decreased salinity in ocean conveyers

And a inevitable shut down, thus leading to another ice age, this has happened many times in history, we are only living in a intermittent time, speeded up by our actions as humans and love for fossil fuels

Got more non-journal 'peer reviewed' studies to tout as if they're actual science, Arthur?

I just wish the climate change loonies on all sides would just STFU and deal with pollution. Regardless of whether or not it causes global warming or if the whole thing is one giant scam the fact remains that all the sh--t being pumped into the air and water helps no-one. Stop screaming panic stories that get proved to be alarmist nonsense that just hurts any effort to actually do something about pollution and start cleaning up.

One thing everyone can agree on is that we want clean air to breath and clean water to drink and use. We want birds and fish and animals and nature to enjoy and thrive.

What no-one can agree on is if the end is nigh and what might be causing it. So really just STFU!!! Stop it!! I have no idea what the flipping agenda is with all the SCREAMING about climate change blah blah blah that accomplishes sweet fanny adams but debate, argument and division and opposition. But if the agenda is to keep the pollution, keep the factories, keep the coal power stations, keep the oil then it is working. Nothing like divide and conquer to win a war.

So all you moronic greenies - SHUUUUUUTT UUUUUUP and focus on the things we all want and put them in a positive light - clean air, clean water, safe future for kids! That we can all agree on and do our part in making it happen. FFS!!

It's long past the point where that can make any difference.

This is just one more battle in the war between two very different worldviews that are fundamentally irreconcilable and profoundly antagonistic. Evidence cannot change these people's minds, because their views are not based on evidence but on ideology.

The fundamentally irreconcilable difference is that one view is based on hard evidence; the other is based on bat-**** ideology.

I see you can't provide any proof that the bat-**** insane side is right... and you want to weasel out of that by saying that it is "long past the point where that can make any difference"?

Science accepts and welcomes alternate hypothesis. So if you have some evidence that the current extreme trends are not directly attributable to human activity, please, by all means, present your case.

Not too long ago, when at my previous company we used to joke about beach front properties in Joburg. An exaggeration, yes, but the reality is that many homes now in the beach front will be in trouble. Add sea surge to the mix and many more will be floating out to see as additional pollution.

It's like this iceberg thing - it has been breaking away since NINETEEN SIXTY SOMETHING! and is a natural part of the calving process of the glaciers that feed the Larsen B ice shelf. But since the whole global warming drama started every time its been in the news 'scientists have been watching it anxiously' - what a load of BS - when the thing did finally separate no-one even noticed for two days - so much for the 'anxious' monitoring.

Of course the break is going to happen faster once a certain tipping point is reached - basic blinking physics - but noooooooooo it accelerated because somehow we caused it.

And guess what never gets in the news, because it just ain't dramatic alarmist BS, the enormous amount of plastic floating in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. If every country (because EVERY country has contributed to that mess) put in a bit, they could build that floating thing that kid designed and clean it up. Wouldn't even take that much money from each country.

So really I am so beyond sick of the discussions and the debates and the arguing and even more tired of the alarmist and completely BS headlines screaming at me and absolutely nothing being done to clean up real mess that I couldn't care less if it warms anything or not - it needs to be cleaned up.

I really feel like the world is like a bunch of kids - they all made the mess but now it's time to clean up and they are standing around arguing about who did what, and what effect it's going to have instead of just getting on with the job.

The "moronic greenies" are doing something about it. What are YOU doing?

And what are you doing?

Here's some proof / evidence that climate change is happening in our entire solar system. (More so on the other planets -where there are no humans- than on earth.)

The "moronic greenies" are doing something about it. What are YOU doing?

Hybrid and Electric vehicles have been around since the 50's , "green" energy abilites since the late 1800's , both fields were sacrificed due to easier revenue from fossil fuels.

All the 'efforts to reduce CO2' are simply excuses by governments to generate revenue.

At the end of the day its all about making money, and what a better way to make money than to exploit peoples fears.

The last refuge of the poster with no evidence: suggesting that other people seek it for him.

So that's a "no", then.
"Seek it for him"? You're dreaming. It's for you, not me.

There are at least twenty threads on this forum alone where I and others have posted extensive info over the past ten years. Do a search if you're interested. Not gonna repeat it all because a search can quickly find it if you want. Not that I think any evidence will convince you otherwise. So, yeah, put words in my mouth if it strokes your ego. That's a typical tactic of you lot anyway.

Climates change naturally. We've been hotter before, in historic times. And colder. You do know that natural water vapor makes up 98% of "greenhouse gases" in the atmosphere, right? Blaming the current cycle on anthropogenic causes is an indication either of willful deception for ideological purposes, or crass ignorance. And if that covers 80% or whatever of modern "climate scientists", all the more to their shame when the AGW deception finally collapses in a cloud of contradictions.

I'm not really interested in getting into another link-war with tl;dr walls of text on this topic. I'll continue to increase my carbon footprint and we'll outbreed you AGWers anyway. The future is ours. If we can eliminate loopy lefty progressivism and cultural Marxism, that future is rosy.
