Foxconn unveils two EVs that form part of plan to take on Tesla

Foxconn Technology Group took the wraps off two new electric vehicles on Tuesday, prototypes that embody the iPhone maker’s ambitions of carving out a slice of a market now dominated by Tesla Inc.

The company, whose main listed arm is Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., unveiled the Model B crossover vehicle and Model V pickup truck at its event in Taipei.

Quite nice looking vehicles. I hate the naming, but let's hope this brings some decent competition.

I think it’s just a place-holder name since it won’t be selling vehicles under it’s own brand

Foxtron! Nice name. Pretty cars too.

It will probably be better made than Tesla because apparently that's a low bar to pass. Hopefully they will be well priced as well?

Surely if it was the Apple car of legend it would be revealed in the most outrageously lavish event of the decade? Right? This has to be Foxxconn itself.

A small hatch will be the real dial-turner in terms of sales once this whole EV thing reaches critical mass

Hon Hai (Foxconn) showcases two prototype EVs and one that's production-ready

During its annual conference, Hon Hai Technology Group, also known as Foxconn, showcased numerous car components as well as standardized and fully scalable software for smart EVs called HHEV.OS. However, the stars of the show were three vehicles, two of them still in the concept stage.

Let's start with the so-called Model C - what appears to be a mid-sized SUV that started as a concept last year and is ready to go into production early next year with actual shipments beginning in H2 2023. This is going to be Taiwan's first fully electric vehicle in production. It has a decent drag coefficient of 0.28 and can go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds. The maximum range is rated at a whopping 700 km.

The Model B, on the other hand, is going to be a compact crossover based on the Model C platform but with a different body and smaller in size. It has a better drag coefficient of 0.26 thanks to a few tweaks on the chassis. It's 4.3-meters long with a 2.8-meter wheelbase and a cruising range of 450km.

The Model V, on the other hand, is going to be Taiwan's first in-house electric pickup. Hon Hai (Foxconn) has joined forces with the MIH consortium to deliver a pickup with a 5-seat configuration with a maximum of 1 ton of payload and a towing capacity of 3 tons. The truck uses actually side-view cameras instead of conventional mirrors and offers a heads-up display for the instrument cluster too.

That looks rather good.

I hope with EV tech that the barrier of entry is lower for manufacturers and more companies can give the traditional lot a run for their money. Can we just standardize on the power connector please.

...two electric cars set to take on Tesla

I am grateful for the competitors in this space, but that's quite a lofty goal. Even if they start rolling out EVs toaday, they are at least 7 years behind.

China always catches up, all they have to do is copy the ones that work, and sell them for half or a third of the price.
and what exactly can one do about it?

they don't care about laws and rules,
copyright and Patent infringement is kind of what China Does very well.

Saudi Arabia announces Ceer - an EV brand in partnership with Foxconn

Saudi Arabia's Public Investment sovereign wealth Fund just announced the launch of a new EV brand called Ceer. The brand is a joint venture between Saudi Arabia's PIF and the Taiwanese Foxconn. The latter is tasked with the development of the EV platform along with the self-driving system and infotainment.

Recently Foxconn announced its first vehicles under the Hon Hai brand about a week ago and showcased its infotainment system. Odds are Ceer will use the aforementioned infotainment system and some of Foxconn's existing EV platforms. Additionally, Ceer will use some BMW tech, but didn't go into detail about it.

Ceer plans to roll out its first vehicles - a sedan and an SUV - in 2025 and contribute about $8 billion to Saudi Arabia's GDP by 2034, offering 30,000 domestic jobs in the process. The new brand will focus mostly on the Middle East and North Africa before pursuing global availability.
