Internet providers must now police misinformation in South Africa — or face R750,000 fines

Several free expression and media advocacy groups have raised the alarm over new rules the Film and Publication Board (FPB) has attempted to impose on Internet service providers and social media platform owners.

In a notice published in the Government Gazette on 22 March, the FPB has attempted to prescribe new regulations governing misinformation and disinformation in South Africa.

Don't bring logic into this.
Yea there's no ways you can pump enough logic into that CEO of FPB they should return his ass to the sender.

No idea how'd this work for us on the internet point, maybe get notified > Immediate suspension of service > contact FPB?

It demanded that these platforms report to the FPB before 22 April on what steps they are taking to prevent propaganda for war, incitement of imminent violence, and hate speech.

deadline as confirmed by the FPB is 30 May

no doubt that the notice is unconstitutional

Yeah, its up to the ISPs to figure out how to make this work.

In all honesty, my first port of call would literally report every single packet of info that comes from any political party affiliated server/device to the FPB and watch them buckle under the weight of being fscking retards.

Massive data centers packet sniffers etc... rooms of people sifting through content and flagging it like a Facebook moderator. Well just goes to show the true colors of the FPB aligned with China

Should fine Google's AI

easy, there is a take down notice process to be used

ISPs do not police their networks
ISPs are not allowed to intercept or monitor communications on their networks
ISPs are not in a position to determine what is and what is not mis or disinformation (and nor should they be)

the FPB does not want to understand this

nowhere close to this
reality is that SA authorities cannot currently meaningfully intercept IP traffic in 2024
