I remembe downloading and using free AVG 8.0 - but I see now they've launched 9.0 and it's not free anymore :/

Anyone know a free, decent anti virus to replace AVG? I remember AVG was good, but just resource intensive

Version 9 also has a free version, you are probably looking in the wrong place. Just Google for "AVG free 9"

But in the meantime, most of us have switched to Microsoft Security Essentials. It is lighter on system resources, it is better at removing embedded infections, the updates come via windows update (local bandwidth) and it has won several awards already. And best of all it is also free.

You can try downloading the torrent for AVG Internet Security. There should still be a version 8.0 one with a license key that only expires in 2018.
It's the full package and works perfectly. Can download updates that will take it to version 9.
