Cape Town – The free Wi-Fi service in the Company Gardens was launched successfully on Friday morning.

Rory Phelan, manager at the Company Gardens, told News24 they were still busy with the final touches on Thursday but that everything has since been completed.

He said there wasn't a formal launch for the Wi-Fi service but if people were in the hotspot area they can simply switch on their Wi-Fi and their phone will automatically detect the network.

Ryan de Kock, technical manager at Connected Space, said 20 people have made use of the free Wi-Fi service when News24 contacted him at 10:30.

"We haven't received any calls from people experiencing problems and everything is fine and stable so far," he said.

There will be signage that will alert visitors about the Wi-Fi parameters.

Smartphone and tablet users will be allowed 100MB of data each day.

Users can contact the support line at 072 979 5056 if they experience any problems.
