Free TVs from Takealot if the Springboks win

Takealot recently partnered with Samsung to offer South Africans the opportunity to win a free TV if the Springboks win the Rugby World Cup.

Customers who purchased a selected Samsung TV during the promotional period will receive a full refund from Takealot if the Springboks win the Rugby World Cup.

I wonder what the final sum will be in losses for Takealot.
Their marketing department is going to be raked over the coals for this one

It could be a good or bad thing, the fact that it is Samsung probably means they getting some rebate from it, and seeing that it is select models could also mean run out stock before it becomes old.

So probably a win from Samsung for moving models that would potentially have burnt them, not sure really.

Is it safe to say that in as much as Takealot will be behind the boks - secretly they are wishing we don't win so as not to have to refund 346 tv's averaging R8000 which equates to about (2.7 million) in total in refunds?

Its a great campaign for marketing of both companies- look how generous we are and support the boks, if you are worried about the financial impact, im sure they hedged by simply placing a bet on SA at the beginning of the WC with the profit margin of these tvs, the odds were in their favour, so i doubt any losses here irrespective how the game goes.

I agree, if their finance guys had half a brain they would have taken some sort of insurance, whether formal or informal. Also, I'm sure the cost won't all be on Takealot, Samsung will certainly be in on the plan.

that guy is just behind on changing the clocks for daylight savings mode - cut him some slack

Wait... What stopped them from buying the TV, keeping it sealed in the box, and returning it for a refund in terms of the CPA if the Boks lose?

In fact Takealot themselves have a 30 day return window.
