On kya.8ta.com it seems like I have been also received 10GB WIFI data on my internet 5 promo.
Wi-Fi Data Unlimited Speed Wed Jul 31 2013 10240 MB
Included Telkom Mobile Data Wed Jul 31 2013 9349 MB

Added to the 8ta (Telkom) site is this link http://www.telkommobile.co.za/plans/postpaid-wifi/ and it seems like the Telkom Direct store is a hot spot at the nearest mall (as well as the Chicken Licken and Wimpy).

I just took out a MultiSim, looks like it will need to go direct into my Tablet. Now I need to find an Android torrent client and a powerbank. The T&Cs allow for a another WIFI device (Laptop, tablet etc) to be provisioned by the MAC address. Maybe I need to set up my Raspberry PI nearby with some queued downloads.

I went to the Telkom store and they supplied me with the sim and rica'ed it. R9 cost added to my monthly account. Interested to see if others with the 10gb account have all been given the WiFi data or it was triggered by my multisim as the website says only be contracts after march 2x gets this.

Just noticed the free 10gb wifi when I checked my balance.

I've never used wifi before. What is the range? I have a hotspot about 800m away.

Will have to check it out later but I would not be too bothered by their free wifi atm.

If you have the i5 promo on your multisim on your phone, can it also be used for voice?

I also got wifi 10gig on my internet promo 5.

+1

Very nice of 8ta\Telkom Mobile to give us another 10GB free data, now I just hope there will be more wifi hotspots where I live. :D

But would still be nice to use it when you're sitting at a coffee shop or airport, and knowing that it doesn't use your "normal" 10GB data.

I've used the uTorrent for Android app for quite some time now. Downloaded a 900MB movie in Spur a month ago. Try it out: http://www.utorrent.com/utorrent-android http://www.utorrent.com/utorrent-android

Have also got this on Internet 5 promo...however since my recent Wimpy experience with AlwaysOn and Samsung free wifi, I might never try this out at all. These wifi hotspots with free wifi is a great idea for businesses to get more customers to their premises but at least ensure there is someone employed there who knows how to deal with customer queries on how to access it.

In Wimpy, they normally give you a paper with username and password.
Was it not the case with you? Did you need anything else?

Anyone tried to register a 2nd device MAC address on the free Wifi data? I also got 10GB on my Internet Promo 5, and the Telkom Mobile site says a 2nd device is possible if linked, but can't find how/where to link it...

I am trying to figure out the exact same thing. Also I5 promo. Want to use my iPad as secondary device, since I keep the sim in a stationary 3G router at home.

Unfortunately I stumbled upon this article saying that the Internet 5 promo is one of the few exclusions....I couldn't verify it anywhere else :(

I also received 10GB free wifi at the beginning of the month. I don't much about wifi and I have never used it before. I was under the impression that since I have free 10gb wifi that I can setup my own wifi hotspot and connect to the internet that way? Does it mean that the only way I can use my 10GB wifi is by finding a wifi hotspot and connecting to the internet that way?

I watched a few Youtube videos which showed me how to connect to the internet using wifi. I went to:
- The Control Panel;
- Clicked on "Network and Internet";
- Clicked on "Network and Sharing Center",
- Clicked on "Manage wireless networks",
- Clicked on "Add",
- Clicked on "Create an ad hoc network",
- Clicked on "Next",
- Typed in a name under "Network name", selected "WPA2-Personal" under "Security type" and typed in the password under "security key". I also selected to Hide the characters. I also selected to "save this network".
- I clicked on next and it seemed like it my network was created.

The question is why can't I connect to the internet using wifi? I use a laptop and the wireless function is turned on. Is there something I am missing?

Yes, you are missing the main idea of the wifi.

It's only to use when you are at a coffee shop, shopping mall or airport (check for Telkom Mobile on your phone/tablet when searching for wifi list) , not to replace your monthly 10 GB data bundle.

You definitely won't find any wifi hotspots near your house.

Thanks for letting me know. I'll find a hotspot tomorrow after work to use up my data.

To add a second device:

Register on the 8ta self service portal.
Log in.
Bottom right ---> "wifi"

Apparantly this is where you specify the MAC address of the second device, but when I hover over it, it links to "JavaScript Void", so the button doesn't do anything when I log In. I have logged a fault with Telkom. When I find a workaround I will let you know.

All we need is the Wifi Button's URL. If anyone's button works, please share.

Anyone been able to add their MAC address of the 2nd device?

I noticed the Telkom Mobile Portal does not have the WiFi option anymore.

Phoned Telkom (081180 / 081183) but they have no idea what I am talking about / went to my local Telkom shop and they say call 081183.
