Hi all

Has anyone successfully set up iburst in FreeBSD ? I've set my mtu down to 1392 , I can ping 100% with no packet loss. All webpages are timing out + everything else other than MSN.

If anyone has it working properly please can they share their ppp.conf.

It is extremely irritating why it just doesn't work like any other device.

Thanks
Andrew

Hi there, dont know about FreeBSD - but on Linux I have to set the DNS servers in /etc/resolv.conf to the ADSL ones.. the iburst ones just dont work. other than that, IP forward enabled and all those nice things

OK,

I assume you are using the BSD box to open the web pages. (or trying to)

DNS Resolv works -
open page - helpdesk.wbs.co.za (if it works)
try traceroute to a web site, see if it gets out.

I am trying to understand your setup

The BSD box is acting as a gateway for my home PC (windows XP)

Only problem is I can't try anything now as the box is at home and I am now at work. To be honest I havn't tried to traceroute as I just assumed that it would be fine. I'll try changing the DNS this evening along with traceroute and post again in the morning

Thanks for the help Richard

Andrew.

Ok

I changed the nameserver in resolve.conf - put about 4 or 5 namesevers in there. Siax , Mweb , ADSL , a couple of them.

Things are still exactly how they were.

I can traceroute to anywhere 100% and fast. From the windows machine I can log into msn , I can SMTP (with attachment).. very odd , I can't browse at all , I can only pop mail when there's no mail in the POP3 account - seems like only when there's as bit of strain it times out.

After experiencing this I thought ok it HAS to be the MTU - I changed the MTU of the actual network card - not just in ppp.conf , I changed the MTU of the tun0 interface when it came up . made all mtu's 1380.

Still exactly the same problem...

Very confused about this one - something so simple like PPPoE is really becoming a ball ache.

Hi again.

I eventually got it going. Here is a copy of my ppp.conf - I hope this can come in handy to someone in the future. It definitely works. instead of "set mtu 1380" you HAVE to put "set mtu max 1380" else it won't work.... well it didn't for me.

default:
set log Phase tun command
set ifaddr 10.0.0.1/0 10.0.0.2/0 255.255.255.0 0.0.0.0

iBurst:
set device PPPoE:dc0
set speed sync
set ctsrts off
set mru max 1380 <---- it only started working when I put in the "max"
set mtu max 1380 <---- " " " " " " " " " "
set authname username
set authkey password
set dial
set login
accept lqr
enable lqr
add default HISADDR

nat enable yes
nat log yes
nat same_ports yes
nat unregistered_only yes
enable dns

Cheers 4 now
