Hey!

I was wondering if anyone is using FreeBSD as a gateway to the Sentech network via PPPoE? I have got it working, however there are a few more things that needs to be sorted out. Hopefully it will work fine once these issues have been resolved. I think the big problem is getting the right configuration settings in the ppp.conf. I will post samples of my configuration files here when I get home. There are a lot of docs on the net that gave good guidelines but I could not get a definition for all the parameters being used by various people in the ppp.conf file. Anyone got any ideas where this is documented?

Here is a quick overview of my setup:
* FBSD 5.2.1
* Custom kernel with all the IPFW options.
* Not required to manually compile in any PPPoE options as it comes with the Generic kernel in 5.2.1.
* 2 Nics
* 1 NIC for Sentech PPPoE
* 1 NIC for internal LAN.
* Unfortunately dont have my config files here, as I say will post later.
* Made the changes in rc.conf to enable, nat, ifpw, pppoe etc.

If anyone is using FreeBSD as a Sentech gateway via PPPoE please post samples of your config files & kernel changes etc. And dont complain about my FBSD5.2.1 :-) they reworked the ATA code and I love it!

If you search the forum you'll find plenty of copies of pppoe.conf files and other settings to optimise your pppoe experience. Some guys are running FreeBSD, others are running assorted Linux distros.

Have a look through and then post your specific problems and we'll see if we can help.

It is working now. Apparently the base station in my area was down this morning for scheduled maintenance.
