FreeMe PREPAID bundle - does it reduce off-network call rates?

I haven't ported to Telkom yet as I am busy killing my Vodacom airtime and data bundle first, but from all the reading I have done on Telkom FreeMe, I have this suspicion that only the contract and one to month FreeMe bundles lower the off-network call rate to 69c and the prepaid FreeMe bundles keep you at 75c per minute, meaning one would also need to apply voice bundles to lower the rate.

Anyone on prepaid using a FreeMe bundle that can confirm that they are now being billed 69c per minute compared to the 75c they were being billed?

Nope you get billed as per your price plan. Only way to get the lower off network rate is to buy the voice bundles. ;)

I'm on Telkom More price plan and here is why.... You get double your recharge valid for 7 days. So I bought a R69 freeme and a R17 all net voice bundle. Recharged with R100.

Don't think you can beat this value for money....

OK, glad I asked because originally, I thought that buying a FreeMe bundle would give instant 69c/min.

OK, so school me - how and when does that free R100 come into play? Will the R100 be used for off network calls before the 25 minutes you bought? If yes, obviously the R100 of off network is at the R1.xxodd Telkom More rate per minute?

Yes. The R100 is just the amount I used to recharge. You can get more value if you decide to recharge in portion during the month.

So the R100 free will be used for off net calls @ Telkom more rate.

The 25min I bought was R17 so that is a decent rate slightly lower than the contract free me out of bundle rate.

So what will happen is once the R100 free airtime expires or gets used up then it will use my voice bundle then my remaining airtime.

I just use the app or website to do everything from recharging with credit card or recharging with a voucher to buying.

R100 free airtime is roughly 52minutes or so but only valid for 7days so that is why if you don't plan on phoning that much recharging a smaller denominations would be more beneficial.

You don't get this free airtime on sim sonke. Telkom More price plan the rate is R1.90 so if you on that price plan make use of the voice bundles because then you won't pay the R1.90 rate from your airtime.

I bow to your prepaid knowledge once again - thanks cavedog! It would be great if you redid the "best prepaid" thread post sometime - your prepaid knowledge on here is unrivaled!

Cool, so using your info, first month I would load R70 and get a 500mb freeme and 36 minutes of calls for 7 days (R70/R1.90). Then in week 2,3 and 4, load little bits to start building up towards the next 31 day 500mb freeme and with each recharge I get free airtime to use for off network calls....

Rinse repeat

Hahaha, I just realised, based on the amount of off network calls I do a month, I am probably not going to spend more than R80 a month to get freeme 500mb, on network, whatsapp and 42min off network calls.

WINNING!

Indeed. I'm a crazy about prepaid. No deal sneaks past me :p Yeah I'm working on a new edit for that thread.

If you also need more data you can always buy a once off prepaid internet staterpack to add to your freeme packages. low cost data paid up front but massive savings. :D

I was told that there is no such thing as month to month on FreeMe. They only have prepaid and 24 months. This is according to the Telkom rep at the Greenstone store. He also called Head Office to confirm.

There is definitely a sim only month to month option.

Well according to the Telkom rep there isn't. So I was probably lied to. I'm now on prepaid but I want month to month and I don't know how to go about getting it now.

Just buy airtime and then buy a freeme bundle via the app or USSD menu which will last for 31 days. Buy again on day 32. Rinse, repeat.

Well that's exactly what I said. The FreeMe is offered on prepaid (what you just said) and on a 24 month contract. There is no month to month contract.

Thanks, Telkom Greenstone are useless. Won't be going back. At least my number is ported to Telkom Mobile now and all I need is to just change to month to month. Will have to find someone who actually knows what they doing.

Do you need the extra sms's and extra 2700 on net/ landline minutes? For me, 100 sms's and 300 TM/landline minutes via the prepaid bundle is plenty enough to allow me to avoid providing bank statements and the paperwork required for their sim only month to month contract. Plus, I aint letting them debit order me....

It seems like a small thing to do in order to get more benefit. I already have all the documentation anyway. I just need someone competent enough to know what they are doing.
