Was wondering if A) anyone else is experiencing this problem and B) if there is a solution to it

I must warn you I am not very computer literate so I'll be expressing my problem in laymans terms and would appreciate feedback in a simliar vein.

What I'm experiecing on iburst in particular during file down loads, is a freezing up of the dl process where there is zero progress. Using windows one's only option is to cancel the dl but to remedy this I loaded Getright and am able to resume dl after the software reconnects to the server and to the interuppted file dl.

However in some instances the file dl has been resumed on 15 or more occasions. File downloads never used to be a problem on iburst but started occuring from one day to the next.

Been having the same problem since yesterday, downloads run at about 130kB/s and then stall, you have to resume to get them going again, I suspect the proxy is to blame.

In my opinion the entire iBurst bandwidth management system/infrastructure, including the personnel engineering/supporting it, is highly erratic and not able to deliver on the promises of the product as advertised.

I believe this is due to one or some of the following reasons ...

a) The bw mgmt system is very tempremental, but the staff are oblivious of whats happening to the customers (unlikely)

b) The staff are aware of the the problems experienced by customers however dont posses the neccessary insight or skills to rectify the situation permanently

c) The staff are aware of the problems however they are so overburdend by other technical priorities they dont have the time to come up with a permanent solution

d) The staff are aware of the problems and have formulated a plan to rectify the situation however it requires the expenditure of additional capital, which management are unwilling to provide currently

Take your pick. The bottom line is I dont think there is anything you can do to fix the situation, bar phoning the call center which most know is an excercise in futility.

levels of complacency

Yes, there are levels of complacency evident in company that are rather alarming to say the least. Point is I'm not prepared to put up with it for much longer! There have been signal issues from day one and I've had 3 different installations done, the last by Shaun Green who is 2nd in command at iburst. The performance after his tweaking was significantly improved but now this issue of freezing down loads. Also during office hours the performance is between 15-30kBps while after hours, at night, weekends and todays public holiday the performance is around 70-90kBps but still the freezing down loads.... why?!!

I'm also having DL problems since yesterday, and also suffering with lower speeds than normal.

They are aware of the problems as they read this forum.

Either they don't know whats going on or they enjoy messing us around, take your pick.

From what I can see, a total meltdown of the WBS/iBurst bandwidth management system is inevitible, it just a question of when (getting close tho). Unless of course all their customers run away.

The problem is that their architecture is way too complicated & un-scalable. If you look at Telkom's ADSL bw mgmt system, it simple but effective.

Telkom has 2 pools of IP, fast (uncapped) & slow (capped). If your uncapped you get dished an IP from the fast pool & if capped from the slow pool. This means they only have to maintain 2 bandwidth mgmt rules, one for the fast pool & one for the slow. The only month-to-month mgmt required is the maintanance of the speed for each rule to ensure that the aggregate speed matches the ave. concurrent users so that contention ratio are maintained.

WBS's architecture on the other hand tries to micro-manage the bandwidth of each active/allocated IP as an individual entity. You can see where this is going .... 1000 concurrent on-line users - workable .... 2500 - network starts wobbling ... 10000 - dont even want to imagine trying to manage 10000 similtaneous bw rules.

If anyone can correct in-accuracies in my speculations about WBS bw mgmt ... please do.
