Speaking about these upgrades.

What ISP offers 4MB uncapped unshaped???

At the moment it's only 512K and 1024K uncapped unshaped.

So if I upgrade from 512K to 4096K...I'll still be stuck at 1024K uncapped unshaped account?

:L:

I was lucky. From 384 to 4MB in 2 hours after moaning at the Telkom shop about getting my initial order wrong... And the beaty - They only charged me for the 384 line installation and waivered the upgrade fee. I've learned and important lesson - Take the time to go to the Telkom Shop and deal direct. I had 95% sucess with them rather then using the phone.

I am not one to give Telkom positive feedback but the Pinetown and Overport Telkom Shop's truly impress me. Ordered my ADSL line the Saturday - The next Saturday it was up and running on 384, the Monday it was upped to 4MB.

Waivered upgrade fee? there is no upgrade fee diago :)

I was informed there was by both the call centre and the Telkom shop when I enquired about this. Guess they haven't been informed yet. Either way it was done.

U should stay on 384kb

4mb is not worth the money its never anywhere near that speed most of the time. You'll see high speeds if a file has been cached on a local server thats about it. 4mb still sucks for any sort of international video streaming

thats your opinion.......imo its great that we are finally getting faster internet.
just the exhilaration of being able to get one of the latest episodes of eg prison break in 15minutes is a good enough reason to upgrade :D

i've been waiting over a week for my upgrade , from 512K to 1mbit (upto 4mbit). Each time i call its a different excuse..

1stly they tell me they are busy on the upgrades now, it should be up in a hour or two, then i phoned 2hours later, Then they have no information on my status. i should call the next day.

Next day i call, then they say my line is cleared for upgrade the technician should just go out and do it. (waited another day)

Called again the next morning, was told that my upgrade is still being processed i should call the next week to check my status...

hmm. Still waiting... and its been 7days (including the weekend)

There is NO upgrade charged, Only downgrade charges - whomever told you that its wavered did it to keep you smiling... Didnt you know telkom are practiced liers???

I certainly have not paid for my upgrade, nor did we pay at work for our dsl upgrades, So...

...something you need to understand about Telkom : If they were doctors, they wouldn't use an arm, they would use their entire leg to do a rectal exam on a customers, and they think they are being so Customer Centric, they will deny you any form of lube or Morphine, and blatantly lie to you with a smile and say... "This won't hurt one bit!"

I have to disagree. Watching 3 machines do video streaming of three different international sites using my 4MB without a single break is a smooth as anything. The big reason for the 4MB trail test according to one of the Overport techies is that Telkom is testing their streaming TV system (I don't know much about this but heard about it before and read something about it somewhere)

Arguably you still get slow downloads but I have noticed these are on servers that don't have the speed available on their side. I downloaded a copy of Nero from an Australian server at between 400 - 500kbps in under 10 minutes. For that, I'll doc up the R 500.00 odd the line is costing me. My problem is keeping my cap from coming up too fast.

Oooh do I smell sour grapes??? I upgraded on Monday and it was activated in less than 24 hours. Kicks ass!!!! It is worth every single penny. It isn't always 4mbit but that is why it is called 1mbit to 4mbit. Downloaded 350mb in less than 20minutes with the new speed. Really happy.
