Hey there.

I'm a bit confused about this. If I go onto Bitco's website, it's clear my area has FTTB (Fibre to the Business) coverage...but I cannot find a single provider of FTTH that has coverage...can't the FTTH providers use the same infrastructure as the FTTB providers??

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I stand to be corrected but I don't think Bitco only to FTTB.

I think that you would need to register your area with the likes of Vumatel and try get buy in from your suburb.

We had DFA (Dark Fibre Africa) fibre 100 meter's from our complex (with 200 + units) and weren't able to access it until Vumatel and now subsequently Openserve decided that we were worthy.

The FTTB rollouts are done by different providers from the FTTH rollouts. DFA provides unlit fibre, and the fibre provider buys this from DFA, lights the fibre and then rolls out to the premises. Usually FTTB are done directly by OpenServ/Liquid Telecom or by DFA Conduct on DFA fibre. FTTH providers are the like of OpenServ, Vumatel, etc.

There is ultimately a different business case - DFA Conduct only lights in fairly large commercial complexes, or in complexes close to where they already have lit fibre. Vumatel, for example, would want a percentage of a whole suburb to sign up before starting a roll-out, and then usually only close to where they already have lit fibre.
