Sounds like a waste of everyone's time.

It's amazing if they installed new copper to use a technology whose only purpose is to save by leveraging existing copper installations.

I haven't read any announcements by Telkom since their initial trial in Pinelands, but its good to have confirmation they are not proceeding.

Australia is doing quite a lot with G.Fast and in TB is deploying in the UK but the fibre industry has managed to market it as inferior.

BTW - I saw your earlier post from last year. If Openserve was 'planning' to give you G.Fast then they would have had to put fibre along the streets in any event. In that case, they would probably have also installed the smaller MSANs along the route - so closer to your house than 2.5Km.

Openserve did install fibre in the existing conduit along Rosmead Ave, even though we are less than 2.5km from the Clareinch exchange, and there are no MSANs in our area. The fibre is lit, and the modem is polling.

There are (or at least were) several people in our complex using ADSL, and many complaints about fixed line quality, so the new 100m of copper was (barely) justified.

Unfortunate timing to roll out something like G.Fast, during the same period as FTTH by another provider. Sounds like a lot of disconnect between those making the plans, and those digging the trenches.

Openserve have previously done above ground fibre in Rondebosch (where my cousin lives), with a high uptake rate. Now 2 years later Octotel is digging up all the pavements in front of those same houses that already have FTTH...
