Hi Guys

Wondering if anybody has a Fujitsu Siemens 19" LCD SCALEOVIEW W19-1 screen and how they rate it. Its got 8ms grey to grey response 16:9 ratio with resolution of 1400x900 with Dsub & DVI inputs and goes for R2300 at Computer Corporation. Link to data sheet below.

Has anybody has found it cheaper or a beter LCD screen for around the same price.

I have one of them, the picture quality is very very good. I only have 2 issues with the monitor 1 - it has a max refresh rate of 60 and 2 it is prone to image persistance.

Other than that i'd say its one of the better wide screens.

Go for the viewsonic

I have found the picture quality lacking when comparing it with particulary Viewsonic.

Viewsonic has got a 19" widescreen with the same resolution (1440x900). I have sold quite a few with no returns or any defective pixels.

Fujitsu's are far from a bad LCD (stay away from BenQ and Acer), but not the best either. The bottom line is if you are looking the good quality, go with Viewsonic, if value for money is your main concern, go with the Fujitsu.

You talking about the ViewSonic VA1912wb for around R3000. Still like the look of the Fujitsu more. Vio what did you pay for your screen.

Yep I am. Remember that the most important part of your PC is your Monitor Keyboard and Mouse. If you are unhappy with any one of those parts, you will not enjoy your PC.

The Scaleoview is pretty decent. From my research I believe it uses the same panel as the Viewsonic VA1912W so the differences would be minor. I like the look of the FS a lot, especially with speakers in the back keeping a nice wide profile, unlike the squarish Viewsonic shape (all personal preference though).

One important thing to keep in mind is that FS is quite big here with very good support and backup. Viewsonic is now only brought in by a single small importer so might be worth keeping it in mind. At the same time check the warranty at Computer Corporation - for example, you can get the FS at Makro pretty cheap now with their FS promotion but it has only a 1 year warranty. Get it through a proper FS distributor and you get a full 3 year warranty.

I personally am saving up a bit to get a 20.1" widescreen - far superior IMO. A 19" widescreen LCD has little advantages over a 17" widescreen as they have the same native res (1440 x 990). The 20.1" widescreen is when you start getting real desktop space advantages at 1680 x 1050. May only be 8-9% larger physically than a 19" widescreen but has around 35% more pixels.

Cheers,
X
