When I first got my 3G (Option) card back in January 2005, I also got quite a lot of those. After a while they stopped. I have not had any with my new HSPDA cards, though.

I have a Hauwei with no funny messages, however, I have been the victim of weird kinds of spam on my 3G number before.

I also received the same junk/encrypted/corrupted sms messages when I started using my 3G card from about two weeks ago.
It must be something to do with the HSDPA HUAWEI E620 card - which seems to be the common denominator.

Some days I receive one every couple of minutes while other days go by without a single one coming my way.

Can you guys confirm the following:

These appear to be MMS's sent to the mobile number in the data card. These end up in the SMS Inbox of the dash and (especially with the Huawei) results in the garbled message.

I've sent MMS's to the mobile number on my data card, but they don't seem to arrive at the dash board.
If they arrive at the data card, they are definitely correctly filtered by the dash - i.e. no form of message (not even garbage) gets displayed.

However, I haven't received any garbled messages lately.

Correction: After about 20 minutes the message did arrive at the dash. The usual text when a cellphone cannot display an MMS is displayed in the dash:
"To view you MMS from xxxxxxxxxxx, please go to http://mms.vodacom4me.co.za ......."

Maybe it is not specifically MMS messages which resulted in the garbage, except of course if it is a specific scenario involving MMS's?

Anyway, the garbage does't seem to happen any more.
