Um, FXI, HELLO? Yoo Hoo! Can you say 'hellkom'? Can you say 'antitrust'? Can you say '5000 members of MyAdsl'?

Why don't they inform us of these sorts of things beforehand? :(

I'm really loving this - everyone is giving Telkom the finger !

Now we just need ICASA to hold firm and the current government to back ICASA and we can finally stick it to Steven White and Sixwe ! :D

OK called Virginia at after 5, she sounded very positive about the picketing, and Cape Town will be going down as well soon - township education initiatives re. the current situation.

After the housing and other debacles, I doubt the people we be talking to will be happy that its government's fault that they have to decide wether to buy a bread or make a 1 minute prepaid call. It will be good to have as many people as possible in South Africa understand the magnitude of the situation.

It's time for Hellkom, Antitrust and the FXI to inform the people, *especially* those who are disadvantaged by Telkom's prices. And that's everyone.

We all should strike!! Not physically, but virtually! Let's just stop phoning for a couple of hours! Telkom will lose millions! But we should all do it together!

fxi pickets! a very very important and symbolic development in the battle which foregrounds the fact that for many this is a freedom of speech/expression issue....how can we have freedom of speech in the face of a monopoly which is ambiguously "regulated" and controlling almost all avenues of communication

What is the main union for the workers of Telkom?
I am very curious to see comment from them on the staff reduction at Telkom (virtualy half their staff) over the last 5-6 years, and their standpoint on the cost of telecommunications in SA in general.
After all Telkom was supposed to roll out communications to the masses, and this has clearly not happened.
Are the unions benefiting financialy from some kind of investment that might be linked to Telkom? (speculation only)
In the motor industry for instance, halving your staff compliment would never fly with a union.
It just seems strange.
Anyway, I am glad that other groups that represent the masses are getting involved in this. Its a sure fire way to success, Telkom have not yet fealt the wrath of the people and now its starting to brew.

Five more than before.
Telkom had a similar attitude towards MyAdsl, and look where that got them.
We will see who laughs last.

number of people is not so important - fact is that the FXI is an internationally-affiliated and resourced organisation with a proven track record of activism

there is a great deal of legitimacy and profile they can bring to this party

What I find more disturbing is, even after all the bad publicity and public outcry, Telkom isn't doing anything to solve the problem.
