Gaddafi realises his African dream
I tend to agree.
How on earth will the rest of the world ever take Africa seriously when the Chair of the AU has been a Dictator of his own country for 4 decades after a Coup in 1969.
Yes the West's media has tarnished the man's image over the decades and possibly the average man on the street judges him for it, whether the stories be true or not.
Surely a person fitting the profile of Chairperson of the AU should have at least a "clean" record?
In my opinion the AU needs Gadaffi and possibly countries like South Africa who may be the few that might keep the AU financially afloat.
I hope Gadaffi proves the world wrong as Africa needs to move on. I am just not sure about this United States of Africa in the short to medium term. In principle it looks glamorous and I know Mbeki took great strides to further Africa's potential. Time will tell.
“This is certainly a step backwards in terms of the profile of the person who is going to represent Africa on the world stage,” Reed Brody, a spokesman for Human Rights Watch, said yesterday.
