My Note4 primary camera broke, so I took my phone to the official Samsung Service Centre at The Grove Mall in Pretoria.
I sent my phone in on the 12th January 2017, and only got it back yesterday the 8th February 2017. Four weeks wait!
The first dodgy thing I picked up, was that they said my secondary camera (the one people use for taking selfies) wasn't working, and they included it in the quotation. Of course I told them to remove it, as I had used the camera the day before, when I took an awesome albeit challenging shot (due to not having primary).
So yesterday I went to collect my phone, and asked to test the camera's before paying. It wasn't easy getting it ready for test, as the battery was dead, and they first plugged it into a PC to charge, which got it to 1% after 10 minutes. I had to ask them to plug it into a wall socket, which was basically on the other side of the guys desk. I then had to wait again. After it was finally charged above 5%, I tested the cameras, and also remembered to test the touch screen and stylus, because they said they take the screen off during repair. I am wary of this process, as my Dad's Note 2 has a lot of dead zones after it's screen repair.
The stylus test I did failed completely. I couldn't even swipe to the next app screen, without 90% chance of opening an app. But of course during the 10% where it did work, the sales assistant, and technician, said "What is the problem?". I think they were hoping I would give up and accept the damaged phone and just pay and leave. I then remembered I had an ace up my sleeve. I dialled *#0*# to get to the official test screen, and ran the stylus test, which looked like a whole bunch of dots and dashes, and failed immediately. Check mate! They were speechless, and immediately suggested putting the phone back in the oven, and told me to come back in an hour.
Long story short, when I came back later that problem was fixed.
However today, after setting up my phone, copying all my content back, restoring records and backups, and finally inserting my SIM card, I received a call, and the screen did not turn off during the call. They broke my proximity sensor!
Another issue I have is with the secondary camera. They somehow managed to get a lot of dirt into it whilst testing (hence why they probably said it needed replacing)
I am so bleak at this point, and tired of fighting I'm not sure what to do next.
Is there such thing as quality control in this country?
What about the average person who isn't that clued up with technology, and gets their device back working worse than before?
Are they going to fix it if I take it back, or is there going to be another unnecessary fight?
