Galaxy S4 accidental damage warranty for South Africa

My S3 fell so many times already, sometimes totally coming apart as in cover one side and battery to the other side but never has the screen cracked. How do you guys manage to get the screens cracked?

Maybe your just lucky.. The proof is in the numbers..

lol, well and here i was still trying to decide between iphone 5 or Galaxy S4. S4 all the way now.

As for water damage... anyone living around Durban will tell you that a cell in you pocket during Jan / Feb, comes out like it was in the bath ....

I dropped my s3 twice.
Once onto bricks and landed on the back corner.
No damage at all.
However, the second fall was 30cm only and was onto bathroom tiles and cracked quite badly.
I actually looked properly at it after that and found the issue that is calling it to break easier. The glass in front is the only thing in front.
That means that while the strong plastic protects it really well, nothing protects the front of the screen the screens bezel is that same piece of glass, the buttons on the bottom are cover led by the same piece of glass.
It is a design flaw. The s4 looks to have corrected that at least, but it is still unacceptable to have not even stated a fault was there.

Most new new big screen phones are fragile, deal with it. My S3 has seen many falls and so far so good (I have a rubberized case to protect). I have seen dozens of cracked iPhones and HTC's. Do they also have "design flaws"? If you want to be rough with your phone get one that is designed to take a beating.

Respect to Samsung for this warranty on the S4.

I think you've nailed it.
Which is probably why the GS2 is so durable... the metal rim is (a) thick and (b) extends higher than the glass
So it allows the phone to take some proper hits, even face-first into the ground, and still survive.

Ever heard the saying "Hulle smeer jam in jou bek"?

Well, it's no more durable than say an iphone or htc, except you'd have to pay to get this kind of cover for those. Samsung offers this for free.
Pure winning IMO.

*Daai Samsung jam smaak moer lekker hoor! (Seker maar better as om droogbek te sit, nie?) :p :D

They feeding the Jam to the wrong people.. They realized their mistake and now improved the design with S4 9 (we hope) so the warranty will be used much less..

Don't get me wrong I'm a Samsung and Android fanboy. Its my last month on my current contract and was going for S3.. don't know if I should anymore:(

Yeah, look with the S4 on the horizon, may as well wait a couple of months for it -I reckon. I, myself, would've had a hard time deciding between the latest offerings, but this thing just puts the S4 ahead of the crowd -again, in IMO.

The s3 is the only phone where the glass is glued directly onto the front of the phone.
iPhone also has it that any angled impact hits the frame before the glass, it's just good design theory, frame should always be the first point of impact in an accidental fall.
It won't save it from major falls, but s3's DO crack easier than other phones.

Nothing saves you from a corner 1st fall with high impact.
30-60cm drops however should be perfectly safe as that is off the edge of a table which is possible with vibrations sending it off.

Repair the glass on a s3 and you see that the only thing between the front of the phone and any surface is the glass.
Samsung engineers are not infallible and have to put up with trying to minimise the thickness for keeping the phone as small as possible, trade offs are made keeping the phone as small and light as possible.

Umm sorry guys just would like to know What kind of screen does the S3 have?...Is it the same as S4?...

No...
S3 has 4.8" HD screen (720x1024 pixels)
S4 has 5.0" FullHD screen (1080x1920 pixels)

Both are Super Amoled (PenTile :)() Matrix displays)

so... maybe Corning only supplied Gorilla Glass to crApple and supplied Samsung with Monkey Glass

I wouldn't be surprise at all, and crApple probable pays less than anyone else for their supply of screens (just because they can)...
I also think that S3/S4 screens crack easier than iPhone screens simply because they are much larger, making them more fragile, and also the body of the Sammy phones are plastic (less rigid than crApple's aluminum/glass chassis)...
