Galaxy S4 accidental damage warranty for South Africa

I registered my device on samsung.co.za just fine and AFAIR the original mybroadband article on this subject pointed to a url and not an sms number. That's not to say the sms procedure is incorrect either. ....

AFAIK The url registration is just a product registration and not a warranty registration. Did you get a reply saying your phone is now covered under Samsung's accidental damage warranty? Did you have to put in your IMEI number when registering?

Yes! It gave a confirmation page stating that my 24 month warranty ends on 30 April 2015.....

See: http://www.samsung.com/africa_en/ADH.html

You only have 30 days from date of purchase to register for ADH, else it does not apply.
Retailers etc. should in fact inform customers of this.
If you do not register, the ADH will fall away and only the normal 24 month warranty will apply.

You mean the 12 month warranty. Samsung warranty is 12 months, or so I was told by cell c when I got my phone.

The Samsung ADH warranty is for 24 months...

Actually, 24 month warranty on just about everything manufactured after 1 May 2012, not just the ADH.

Necro alert.

My phone fell in water last week and I tried drying it by attaching it to a fan at home for around 4 or 5 hours. After that it worked as if nothing ever happened.

However this morning the screen started flickering and it just died.

The problem is I never had it registered for ADH - here's why.

I bought the phone from my MIL (she found it too big for her hands) who bought it abroad and since she bought some other stuff as well she kept the receipt. I asked her earlier today whether she still has it and she tells me she threw it away a long time ago as she didn't know the warrantee would be applicable here. I was like WTF!! :wtf:

So now I'm in nomansland. I also see on Samsung's site that I had to have registered to receive the warrantee (which I didn't even know I had to do!).

Anybody have any advice or ideas? Or is my only option to have it repaired out of my own pocket.

Try register the IMEI for ADH now. If successful then hand the phone in for repair.

S4 is less than 2 years old since launch so a receipt should not make a difference

1. bowl of rice would work better than a fan
2. I dont think Samsung SA would cover the warranty for a product bought in another region.
3. ADH would only apply to products bought in SA I would think

I was under the impression they read the IMEI from the phone when you dial the USSD code, I now see you need to send a message. Will register it when I get hold of another phone once I get home :)

I don't know, worst they can do is tell me they won't fix it, but its worth a shot.

I have too much content on that phone to lose, so if they say no I'll be forced to have it fixed by a third party :)

You don't have to register for adh anymore, provided you have proof of purchase.
Devices bought in other regions not likely covered by local warranty as Samsung doesn't do international warranty on phones as far as I'm aware.

1. Crawl into fetal position
2. Cry
3. Cry some more

:p

Sorry mate

To register. Send an SMS to 34622. The message must contain ONLY "REG*your full IMEI number#".

I have done this THANKS as I just received a S4 LTE as gift :D, and it worked to register the normal 24 month warranty as I got a message stating the fact BUT it seems that it was not enough as you also have to download the Samsung ADH app from Google play and install it on your phone, fill in the required information when running the app and then it will tell you that you are registered for ADH protection.

So please do both to be 100% sure!

Okay, the wife just dropped her S4 and the screen's busted. 6 months old. It was a contract phone. Will it be covered by AHD?
No app installed.

Install the app then take it in :) (someone I know recently did that).
