Galaxy S4 smartphone moves into Apple's turf

i'm looking forward to see what this phone has to offer as i am highly contested between the iPhone 5 and the new Galaxy S4.

Getting tired of this feature and spec masturbation

Years ago there was a lot of differentiation between the various options.
But in reality what * meaningful* differentiation is there today?

I am not seeing much that will lure Apple users to become Samsung users
I am not seeing much that will lure Samsung users to become Apple users

Of course there are differences but ask yourself, are those a good reason to move considering the eco-system you leave will plug the important gaps?

Now please dont trot out a silly list of differences about things that mean little to the user *every day*

No-one sensible measures the speed of the processor and RAM etc. Its all in the user perception of performance, screen etc.

We have smartphones. We use them for
* Calls
* Messages
* Apps
* Games
* Content (videos, music)
* Web Apps

Now I understand that everyone has a preference. That is understandable
However are they different in a way that affects you meaningfully? (assuming you are acquiring stuff lawfully)

Just got my Galaxy S3 recently.

My 5th Android phone (HTC Desire, Motorola MB525, LG Optimus Black, Galaxy Tab 7"), and wow. Things have moved on a whole lot.

This thing is so slick, it's really a pleasure to use. And the camera is unbelievably good!

Just plugged in my gmail account details, and 5 minutes later, all contacts on the phone, download my favourite apps, and we're sorted.

I guess that once you get 'locked' into the ecosystem, there has got be a good reason to change.

Anyway, the iPhone 5 and the Galaxy S3 blend equally well, and are made of the same grey dust!

Not being an Apple fan though, (I don't i-anything), all the iPhones look the same to me...

Everything just works, plain and simple!
I have had it for almost a year now and I am very happy :)

Apple is going to play out the brand loyalty and "it just works" angle sooner or later. Probably sooner.

IPhones will become just another niche product for ignorant snobs like the <tongue in cheek>mac</tongue in cheek>.

Seriously though, if I have to hear from some semi-tech literate Apple fan boy tell me how easy his mac book (or whatever) is, I'm going to projectile vomit all over their laptop.

Your computer cost 4 times as much as mine did and it doesn't do anything mine can't do. "Easy" is not worth that sort of money. How stupid are you?

Oh, and every Android I owned just worked too.

+1000

Out of interest - And I am not picking on you so sorry for any generalisation
Looking at this board many people go on about Apple fanboys, Apple boring, Apple users stupid etc. etc.

Yet have you blokes looked at yourselves - Just base it on the comments made on this blog
A lot of patronising, rude, insulting, one eyed, arrogant and misguided wopsticks

Yeah...

I'd put myself in the Android camp. I have owned 1 Android phone so far, dont plan for it to be my last one. And philosophically, I support Google and Android more than I do Apple, which I feel is too closed off for my liking.

That said, I wish there were Android products as good as Apple products. Apple products do just work - I think they have the best tablet available at the moment, and for years, the Macbook Air had no competition. Apple does its thing extremely well, and they also do well, is marketing. They know that consumers dont care about megahertz, megapixels or megabytes, they want to hear about what difference it will make to their lives. Apple is very good at this. They tell you how it is compared to the last gen, but not what its clockspeed is. Samsung is going to trot the S4's clock speed and core count all over the place.

Yeah, clock speed and core count matter to me, but it should, I'm a geek/nerd/programmer/gamer. I know it wont matter to anyone's Mom.

I also dont think Apple's stuff is overpriced, at all. In fact, I think its very reasonably priced, considering its specs.

IMO, Apple is for people who don't know, and don't want to know how things work. Apple insulates you from the guts.

Me, I need to keep my edge, and by making things work the hard way (I'm talking servers and niche desktops) I get to keep my skills.

+1 on the Android, all of mine just worked too. But it was also fun to root my LG and install Zeus (or whatever else took my fancy) too.

And if you know console, you can work that too. The lovely terminal, where I feel familiar and most people feel totally emasculated. Where you can command the machine without a million clicks and radio buttons and drop down menus etc.
