Galaxy S4 smartphone moves into Apple's turf

I'm not seeing the significance of this piece of news.. they've always had Galaxy phones in the US.

IMO, Apple is for people who don't know, and don't want to know how things work. Apple insulates you from the guts.
As someone who has a fair idea of how UI's work at least, I have a great deal of appreciation for the level of discipline Apple has exerted to maintain the kind of quality control that they have done over the years. It's an impressive thing.

Me, I need to keep my edge, and by making things work the hard way (I'm talking servers and niche desktops) I get to keep my skills.

+1 on the Android, all of mine just worked too. But it was also fun to root my LG and install Zeus (or whatever else took my fancy) too.

And if you know console, you can work that too. The lovely terminal, where I feel familiar and most people feel totally emasculated. Where you can command the machine without a million clicks and radio buttons and drop down menus etc.

Are you the type of person that dicks around with his car.
Lowers the suspension, neon lights underneath. Chip the car etc ?
And then you do your own servicing.

Rooting phones and servicing cars - Same thing for me.

I am an ex-tech that has kept his hand in.
I have played with Android based devices in a limited sense
I never read manuals and consult the web only when really stuck

My company uses Google for Business for collab, mail, contacts, calendars etc

The below comparison isnt fair granted

On iOS
Setting it up on the mail.app on iOS was dead easy and intuitive (either via GMAIL or Exchange)
Same with GMail app

On Windows Phone
Also easy

on A Galaxy Note 2 I tried yesterday
- GMail was easy but I thought the iOS Gmail App was better on iOS (only marginally)
- On the native app it wasnt intuitive because I wasnt using a gmail domain. Sure I could have looked up the IMAP port numbers etc.
Any way I need to give one another go
Would like to test the Nexus 4. I dont like TouchWiz etc. getting int he way

Yea it's total nonsense. I'd appreciate a bit more tinkering in Apple's guts tbh. But I thoroughly appreciate the level of thoughtfulness, depth and solidity of their design and in the end quality wins out.

Out of interest - And I am not picking on you so sorry for any generalisation
Looking at this board many people go on about Apple fanboys, Apple boring, Apple users stupid etc. etc.

Yet have you blokes looked at yourselves - Just base it on the comments made on this blog
A lot of patronising, rude, insulting, one eyed, arrogant and misguided wopsticks

Hehe. Ja. And, to be fair I was trying not to rub the Apple fanbois the wrong way. Believe it or not. Look, I just don't see that an iPhone is any more usable than a Galaxy straight out of the box. And really, when people tell me that their iPhone or mac is just so usable and easy and trouble free I just wonder how thick they must actually be. Not that all Apple fans are retards but really that is the message a lot of Apple fans are relaying without even realising it and with a good deal of smugness to boot.

So, really there may be any number of reasons to love an iPhone but there are just as many and more to love a droid. At the end of the day the iPhone is going to be for the techtarded niche. And, why not really. Plenty of very intelligent techtards out there who are happy to sacrifice features in favour of usabillity. But, it's the smugness. IPhones just aren't better.

But, I did start the name calling. So, fair enough - sorry.

I should say ease of use rather than usabillity. I don't believe droids are difficult for most people at all. Iphones are just really, really user friendly. Unnecessarily so for most.

I'm ranting now but, Apple products are for people that like tech and gadgets but struggle to connect their dvd player.

Sorry to hear your application for that iPhone 5 was turned down then bro. ;)

No need to apologise because I was having a go at *all* people that get that way on this board
I was saying that Fandroids behave worse than Fanboys!
Of course its difficult to measure because there are more Fandroids on here than others

Where I do agree with you
I just don't see that an iPhone is any more usable than a Galaxy straight out of the box

Except I will add vice versa

Forget the feature counts and MHz counts etc.

What functionally that people use very regularly are vastly different across iOS and Android?
Something that makes a difference to your day?
I include Apps available

I cant see anything that should make anyone want to switch in either direction
Where one is better than another the other one is catching.
And even if they are consistently behind on a feature is it a reason to justify switching? (Live tiles etc.)
Sure there are iOS apps that are better or more available than the Android equivalents
Sure Google should be more tightly integrated into Android although Google Apps on iOS are superb

One cannot make an argument from ones own paradigm. Ours is better grunt grunt.
Its philosophically flawed

Sure if you have not chosen anything then there can be a debate
But to cross the floor? In either direction? Why?

You have a DVD player still?
How old world! :)
My ancient ones sit there gathering dust

Actually I may get a new one now for one reason only. My daughter gets ancient series on DVDs (70s and 80s stuff) that is a pain to rip to Digital. BluRay players cost bugger all

But apart from that buy/rent online?

Eish, Biscuit, common sense? I think you'll find it has little value in these threads.

:p You guys are getting defensive because of the choice of words. Come on, fanboy and techtard are just discriptive terms. Don't make me get all PC. You're intelligent enough that you'll still feel instulted. This just my considered opinion. Should I keep it to myself for fear of offending?

Not at all but you should consider the other opinions.
Just banging the drum without listening or considering other opinion.
How does it contribute to debate? You are just speaking to yourself.

Hell you may as well do the 5 knuckle shuffle. You will have more fun and still be dealing with yourself

Cool, no worries... You've got fanboy, we've got fandroid. Now if you don't mind sharing the Android equivalent of techtard so we can use it without fear or favour, we can all get back to getting along.

To me it's like buying a lower spec car for more money just because it has an automatic gearbox. A lower spec product should cost less. We're talking about a company that once told us we didn't need 3G. We needed 3G. Getting by without something is not the same as not needing it in the tech world.

You have a DVD player still?

My ex got the last dvd player I owned 5 years ago.

And you've seen no evolution in any of their products since? Oh well... Then, let me ask you this... What do you think we are getting by without? Other than 3G of course... LTE? Maps? A telephone to make calls with? Oh, wait, is it a massive screen?
Biscuit is 100% correct. You have your perfect phone, OS and ecosystem while I have mine. Seems like a win/win to me so what's the point in ranting?

The Apple fanboi's always get all defensive whenever a Samsung thread pops up...

And Android fandroids always get all condescending whenever an Apple thread pops up... Go figure.

.

Porsches, Ferraris etc all have automatic and semi automatic gearboxes
And even with those I dont look at specs. Its the driving experience

You keep talking about things and avoid my question

What missing or inferior features or functionality would make the journey across the floor worthwhile?
MHz is not a feature. Again I am talking about something that affects the way you do stuff everyday

Banging the drum is just noise

+1000 I've got to say I think the defensiveness is way out of proportion.
