Hello

I see MTN has the Tablet for R369x24 with 2GB data, and i am interested in getting this tab, obviously i would be using it for 2 years since the contract is 2 years. Is it worth it?, i have heard it should be getting ICS soon, and wondered if say in maybe 1 years time, some huge exploit comes out for the operating system, and samsung doesnt update it, you are then left with a useless tablet. Im not one for loading custom roms or rooting the tab either. any thoughts?

I have one. Wouldn't advise buying it now if you're not keen on rooting, even though that's a very good price. I did root, and have been running ICS for weeks now, and it's a lovely piece of hardware. But the new version was announced recently, and if I were you, I'd wait till those come out locally: http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...-adds-a-microsd-slot-tacks-a-2-on-the-name-2/

Then either get the new one, or take advantage of even lower prices on the old one.

It's been out for a while now, I think new one's are coming in , I'd rather wait.

I was also going to go for one but decided on the iPad 2 which was the best decision I ever made.

Thanks for the replies, i see the "2" is coming out, but all it adds is a micro sd, the hardware is 99% the same, same CPU, RAM etc..

What about the 7" Plus ?, is it too small to use?.. I had an Ipad 2 , and it pretty much replaced my laptop/netbook for what i was using it for, email, browsing, etc.

I have the P7500 and love it. It has taken over my desktop, notebook, and phone at home. I would definitely recommend it. The new version that was announced recently does not seem that much different, except for the sd-card that is not such a big deal. I have almost 200 apps (lot of them games) installed on mine and the internal memory is not even 60% full. I had a look at the HTC flyer which is also 7" before I got the P7500, but preferred the 10.1. Size matters! If you see a good deal - go for it!

The version2 not much different, no, but its release should mean being able to get the version1 cheaper, relatively soon. As for the 7" vs the 10.1", I used to have the 7", and actually preferred it (it was stolen, then replaced by the 10.1). But that's because I have a Samsung 900x notebook, which is super light, so I didn't want such a large tablet - so it really depends on your mix of devices. If you had a Galaxy Note, for example, the 7" Tab would be a silly thing to have given the small size difference.

The there's also the 8.9" Tab, in case you didn't know...

And just to note - the MTN data deal I have with the 10.1 is R149p/m for 2Gb. So you're (effectively) paying R5280 for the 10.1 on that deal, and the rest for data. If you see another tablet you like for that or less - especially once the new ones land - it might be worth keeping the option of buying that for cash open (if you can), then just adding the data contract.

The P7500 is a great device, but I have the following issues with it:

1. I can't stream 720p/1080p over my wireless network at home without the image stuttering or sound being out of synch (my galaxy S2 has no problems with this).
2. The size is a little big for my needs. The 7 Plus would probably be a better bet if mobility is a big consideration since it'll probably fit in a jacket pocket.
3. Kies is a bit a bit of a b1tch (although this seems to affect all current Samsung devices)
4. For a dual core device, it doesn't seem that responsive (although the recent upgrade to Honeycomb 3.2 helped)

Thanks, what tablet can you get with 3g in this price range of R5200?

The tablet would effectively replace my notebook, like the Ipad 2 did, i just sold it since i wanted something different, and wondered if the 7" might be too small.. Does MTN have the 7.7" or even the 8.9" ?

No idea - just saying that you have that option. If you were happy to do some rooting, the Kindle Fire is only $199, and people have gotten ICS to run on it.

As a notebook replacement (although I could never dump my notebook for any tablet), I would agree that you need to go big. Even the 8.9 inch, if you can find it, might be a bit small. As far as I know, MTN only have the galaxy tab, 7 plus and the 10.1 samsung tablets.

Thanks, i just know when i had the Ipad 2 , i never even touched my notebook, there was no need, as i used it for browsing, email, some games, some spread sheet and docs. Im not much of a document creator, but more a media consumer

I see the MTN R369x24 comes with a bluetooth keyboard as well.

Doesn't rooting, or loading custom roms void the warranty?

Yes it does. But once you learn how to root it, you'll also know how to put the original firmware back on it in case you need to make a warranty claim.

You should spend some time at the XDA forums - there are plenty of guides there, and I certainly don't want to take responsibility for explaining the root procedure to someone whose never done it before, sorry! Here's a video walkthrough: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYeQ1ndwyM4&feature=related (says wifi only, but works on the 3G too). Then of course up to you which ROM to use - I'm on this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459287 (Camera not working, in case that matters to you).
