Just seen Game's latest promotion material. They've yet another external hard drive on promotion 3tb USB 3 compatible with USB 2 external hard drive Verbatim R1099. That's less R367 per tb.

Thanks for the heads up.

You welcome, you better phone first thing in the morning last week they had a promotion on 2tb external hard drive. Seems every store only keeps 1 - 5 in stock, stocks are limited.

It's so tempting, but I'm not in desperate need of more storage space.

What hard drives are used? I'd like to open it and use as a internal.

Just purchase it and store it in your closet. Hard drive prices are probably going to go up in price and not down, if you want to add it to your PC. Just open the enclosure.

I did see 4tb external hard drive from Dionwired for R1999. It's an awesome price..

I am only going to buy it as a backup / connect it to my television.

Seagate - purchased the 2tb model number st2000dl003-9vt166 (2tb) last week not sure of the 3tb

Sigh. It looks like I may have to part with a grand tomorrow then. Why are hard drive prices going to go up?

Hard drive prices should be coming down, not up. Perhaps the rand is keeping that at bay for the moment. They only spiked due to the massive disaster in japan.

All sorted now so they should become cheaper and cheaper. With ssd's fast closing in on the hdd's they better start selling them cheap.

Assuming SATA?

All of these external 3.5" drives will be regular SATA drives with a SATA/USB bridge. Just regular drives and whatever is cheapest, most likely Seagates. It's only 2.5" externals that you have to be careful with in terms of non-SATA PCBs.

Got the same drive from Dion Wired last week for the same price, except I got it delivered for free too.
