I did all the steps that were on the site.

Including adding WoW in the proxy and starting up the game from there.

just to make sure, you did

applied on the site

putty installer
http://tartarus.org/~simon/putty-snapshots/x86/putty-installer.exe

proxification software like sockscap, freecap or proxifier (non freeware)
http://surfonym.com/files/

registry entries for putty
http://www.gamemax.org/files/pamela.gamemax.org.zip

and then
  1. installed putty
  2. import the registry entries for putty
  3. setup your proxification software (this is socks cap setup)
    1. adding socks server
      .set "SOCKS server" as 127.0.0.1
      .set "Port" as 443
      .select "SOCKS Version 5 "
      .select "Resolve all names locally"
    2. adding udp port
      .click "Apply"
.under "SOCKS Version 5 Direct UDP Ports" click "Add"
      .type "3724"
      .click "OK"
      .click "Apply" and "OK"
    3. adding wow.exe
.Click the "Browse..." button and find your wow.exe, this will be where your WoW is installed.
.all the fields will be filled automatically
      .click "OK"
    4. lastly you should see the wow icon added :)
  4. start putty and double click on pamela under Saved Sessions (this is added from the registry entries)
  5. log in with username and password supplied
  6. start wow, alt tab and check the proxification software to see if its actually tunneling*
  7. play wow !
------------------------------------------

*in the end you would have to check if the proxification software actually is sending wow's packets to putty, by alt+tab just after it has started up and is showing the login screen.

why it wouldn't tunnel
  • proxification software isn't started or setup-ed correctly
  • wow.exe isn't proxified by the proxification software
  • putty isn't installed or registry wasn't imported
  • putty isn't started or pamela session loaded and logged in

As far as I can see I did that. And like I said before. If I am in game and close putty my wow disconnects.

You didn't try the naggle registry hack to lessen wow's latencies before running this whole setup ?

on a side note;
due to pure boredom i decided to try out some www.artofping.com 's pinfu which also promises allot less latency for online gaming. Needless to say it had wow on 295ms where as gamemax would be 205-ish...5 euros (5 Euros = 65.2017772 South African rands) gone :D, o well how else would i have known.

well afaik you must reverse all registry hacks before using gamemax.
Will the wow registry 'hacks' improve my ping even more?
The wow registry 'hacks' will decrease the performance of your normal network related operations such as downloads/browing and especially uploads. People with registry 'hacks' activated have reported problems, even while using GameMax their pings in raid's/pvp have a tendency of shooting up and then down again. The server has all the enhancements activated and much more ONLY for your game and not the whole system! Please reverse all your registry hacks while using GameMax and if you decide that GameMax is not for you and you don't mind the degraded download/uploads you can always restore the 'hacks'. If you can't remember what changes you made do a Google search for 'wow registry hacks' and just follow the instructions in reverse to disable them and restore the default settings.

A guildie in the UK has set up his own box now after I and some guildies complained about the price of Gamemax. I get the same speeds as I did with Gamemax, and perhaps he would be looking in to resell to everyone else after he has done some testing.
