Game's online price beat promise tested

A real-world test of Game's online price beat guarantee showed that it is very difficult to get the promised refund of the difference plus an additional 10%.

Game has been promoting its price beat offering, stating, "We'll beat any price, so you get more with every shop".

It recently extended the traditional in-store price beat guarantee to its online store, promising "the lowest prices online".

So either it's a case of them purposefully trying to push back on this or it is just plain old poor customer service.

Anyway, good article. I had forgotten about their "promise".

You can't beat them, unfortunately. I once tried, about 5 or 7 years back. I wanted to buy a Defy gas hobs. I showed them the hobs price and they said it is a different model. Clearly to me, it was the same........but I think they ask manufacturers to change the number or maybe even making up their own model number, just to beat the system. Eg. Defy model is maybe DHG133, but theirs is for all looks and everything the same, just the model number differs with one or two numbers.

You can check yourself. Search something on their website, copy the model, example Defy DGS 168/SGG51001NB, and see if you can find the same model somewhere else.

I once saw a 55" Sinotech Smart UHD telly for sale at Pick n Pay in Amanzimtoti one day online in 2017. So I printed the page out on our black and white printer at work and took it to my local Game after work and showed them as they had the same telly model for quite a bit more.
The manager was called and he was shocked so he phoned the number on the advert and the Manager at Pick n Pay there confirmed it.

I got my telly from Game here in Somerset West for a total of R5950. Very happy customer, considering Game was selling it for R8000

I did the same thing with Game back in the day. Also for a Sinotec TV that was cheaper at PnP.

The thing is, at the time, although PnP was cheaper, they only offered a 2 year Warranty. Game and Makro at the time were the only stores offering 5 years.

I conveniently left that little fact out in order to get the discount. :p

Urgh, one of the stores I absolutely hate stepping foot in. Service always horrendous and tills a nightmare... Don't think anyone can swipe slower than them..

Honestly dont know how they still going...

Was in a Game store today, they made that promise on the intercom while in there. the complete shop was rewamp, everything was move to another place.

I bought a bunch of pool supplies a month or so back. Printed out the best prices from the various specials retailers were running, popped across to game and they beat all the prices. I ended up saving about 30% on 6 months pool supplies.

LOL
Totally agree
I go in there once every 2 or 3 years or so and only because I have already done my online research and have found that the item I am looking for is actually there at Game.
I go in, grab the kitchen appliance or whatever and proceed to walk to the cashier, it is amazing how quickly the salesmen see you do this and rush to your assistance and try and scribble their Code or whatever it is on the box to earn the commission. Or at least that is what I think they are trying. The same used to happen at HiFi Corp as well. I just tell them Voetsek Jou Naai

Game is horrific , 14 days to get an order with numerous emails and calls . Never ever again . Gfy Game Massmart.

Game's staff are terrible. I'd rather pay more than go in there. Same applies to Builders Warehouse.

Hahahahaha! 100%
At builders especially, I have lost count of how many times I have helped fellow customers, and pointed them to the correct isle.
Game and Builders should pay us

Sorry I couldn't help but laugh. This is so typical South African service.

It is so shockingly bad that it is hilarious.

We should be more vocal against poor customer so as to not normalise it. I think we just accept it as par for the course.

Yes, one can do it without being the proverbial "Karen". The problem is, some are quick to coin that term even when it is not warranted.

Many years ago they told me it only valid to stores in 50km radius....online count now also?

I doubt anyone is accepting it my friend. Same as your emails. I am just laughing at how we all can relate....

Reminds me of my conversation with Afrihost support staff a year or two ago.

Oh, and just for fun, here you go:
